Well Im back with my opinions on racing a "Stock" XB9R. This was my first official race since Sept 03. Yes I trained and did got track time in 04' But this is my FIRST race for 05'and first on a stock XB9R which they posted as a XR984R, I can live with that.

First- Jardine Exhaust: Great for saving weight, looks quality easy to mount, easy on the wallet. I used it on the street for a brief amount of time, seems to worked and probably would for some time. On the track 3/4 of the packing blew out on the first day of testing in May, I repaired it and same 1/2 of that blew out next open practice. SO I modified it, removed ALL the fiberglass made my own baffle for back pressure and a tail pipe to clear the belly pan, only problem I initially used aluminum rivets which ALL Broke. Steel rivets solved that problem. Bike runs awesome, is loud as hell, and does not pop on decel. My opinion, Jardine slip ons are not for long lasting track use, Street OK.

Stock Brake Pads: They work well, I experienced zero fade and they seem to grab well, only bad thing is after two race weekends they are gone, worn to nothing. I will be trying the EBC's next. Ill let ya know.

Stock Suspension: Coming off an Aprilia RS250 with Racetech goodies, the STOCK Buell components feel Better and require less twiddling. I tried the settings that can be found on this list for "aggressive" riding, I backed everything off back to a much softer setting and the bike turns in perfect, soaks up the ripples, seams and bumps. The rear shock takes on a massive amount of heat and Im sure will be ready for the trash by the end of the season. I will be putting in a Penske(Made in the USA) because it can be rebuilt and the fluid can be changed. I think thats important cause at the end of a race the rear shock was just as hot as the engine case. The Bike is by far the most comfortable bike to race that I have been on, it did absolutely nothing to spook me. I will be trying some more settings next race weekend, but I have found a happy baseline.

Engine- Stock with Race ECM; provides less bottomend with a smooth building powerband straight thru to redline, only complaint MORE HP!!! The bikes handling can make up ALOT of time for lack of overall power.

Final Drive: If you are having the 03' belt issues OR you are going to race/track days The "Adrenalin Moto/Trojan Horse Chain Conversions WORKS!!! I checked for any deflection on idler, overall wear and surrounding area for interference. NO Problems, install and forget about it. I like the fact if I pop the chain (which is a stretch) I can go to the paddock vendor for a $50/$60 chain and be racing again. Also was able to change the gearing to best suit Loudon and Pocono FUSA track with ease. Overall its a Must have.

My first race experience went well, I didnt take too many chances and I needed seat time. My research is for the average person looking to club race on a budget and what is "really" necessary. Race results and complete laptimes will be posted on my website.

Sounds great to me. Looking into the Penguin school there in Sept. Curious about what settings you used for the track. As well as any tips for the track

Thanks for sharing!

I'm pretty sure I am having the same results with Jardine. I repacked mine before riding from San Diego to Monterey and back, and the bike is definitely louder again. My can was completely empty of packing after about 4k before the repack.
