Hey guys, I tried a search, but didn't find much. My Speedo is bouncing all around, and sometimes doesn't work at all. The tach is fine. Is it a sensor, or the wiring harness? Thanks!!

There's about a million posts (give or take) about the older speedo sensors failing and wiring to the sensor chafing.

What year is your bike? If you have the earlier sensor, try the newer type after you have inspected the three wires going to it for damage within the first 6" from the sensor.

Bike is '03. I'm going to start at the sensor and work my way up. Thanks for the help everyone!! I'll hopefully fix it when I fix my brake lever. Just a reminder, never let your buddy practice the DMV test on your bike. He might drop it!! He wasn't going but 2mph, and it scratched a few things, and broke the brake lever. Anyone got a P/N:.? Oh, the speedo was screwed before the fall.

I just had my '03 lightning in the shop for the exact same thing. I picked it up today and they said the speed sensor went out. All this means is another wonderful trip to my wonderful 99% harley dealer.

Thanks Tomzweifel! Carparts.. Great, if I want is under warranty, I guess I bring it in. I'll check the wires first, and if all else fails, in the shop it goes!

When they fail, they are usually totally toast.

The 03 9r had the suspect sensor setup.

It could be just covered with gunk, pull and clean (it is magnetic). It may or may not help, is usually does not.
