i was out at the liquor store getting my mandatory lottery ticket when my 9r started making a hard clicking sound when trying to turn her over. it didn't sound like the battery was low, more like the starter wasn't engaging all the way. i know nothing of course but have a wild imagination. what was strange is the engine light came on and off after push starting it. it "seemed" to come on at low rpm's. never had that problem. checked oil, looked good. any professional or even better, not so professional opinions? |

Battery terminal connections are probably loose. |

thanks, tightened terminal which was a little loose but, still get the clicking/clacking sound. i think and hope it's just time for a starter. that engine light though...could a bad starter cause it to come on? arrrrgh! |

I doubt you need a starter. Charge your battery overnight. |

check your starter button/switch ..I am having a similar issue with mine, and next chance I get I am taking it apart and checking it |

When my battery was almost dead it made a gawd awful clicking noise instead of turning over. Louder than anything I have ever heard from a car with a failing battery. Threw the charger on the battery and all was good. |

ya know, i really like the idea of just a low battery. i have no charger so i'll pull out the jumper cables for a test tomorrow. |

check your relays (inside the fuse box), i've had 2 come up bad on mine... |

Charge it, don't let the charging system do a dead battery, that puts a lot of strain on it. |

The charging system will charge the battery to fast and probably kill the battery. Battery tenders are a must. |

of course i got up this morning and went straight my bike before reading the new posts. i did put a quick jump using a portable jump start gadget thingy. you guys are right as usual, my battery is needing a charge. NOW WHY DID MY BATTERY DIE?! any advice on checking the charging system? i'm gonna get a charger or tender today but that could just be a bandaid for the problem. right? |

Volt meter across the battery terminals. While running the voltage should be around 14 volts. Then the charging system is OK and the battery is shot. |

Same thing happened to me this morning near where I work. I was about 10 miles from home when the engine light came on. Bike died within 3-4 miles. Tried starting it and got the dreaded noise. The clicking sound is similar to my truck when it's battery was dying. Pushing my bike a mile to work (with a bay and company truck waiting) was a glorious bonding experience. Engine light is blinking Code 16 • Battery. It's on a charger right now. When my charging system had failed before, it would code the battery and front and rear coil, so I'm hoping it's just the battery (i.e. Easy Fix). Battery is 3 years old with about 18k on it. |

Your Battery probably died because the loose connection was not keeping the Battery topped off. After you shut it off, the already low Batt Because the fuel pump and starter now has to run the rear cyl fan. Get a battery tender. The charging system is not designed to properly charge the batt. Its designed to maintain system voltage to run the electronics and stuff. |
