I just ordered the fiberglass one from Trojan-Horse

They're in the UK, not sure how fast shipping is going to be to California however they do have them in stock... cost a little over $200...

Note.. it is primered so you have to paint... see this thread..

Got mine a few weeks ago from Trojan - was about $223 with shipping from the U.K. Painted it with SEM Bumper Black paint, matches the stock piece perfectly.

Fiberglass one and the cost was about $220. Took about 3 1/2 weeks to receive it.

Also, don't over-torque the top screw, watch that it doesn't start to dig in to the fiberglass.

Ours is back in tooling. I finished with the plug, turned it over to folks that produce the production tool a few weeks ago, but their progress hasn't been as fast as I would like. I told them that it is my priority project and to kick it up. Pricing should be similar to the Trojan unit. Our left side Carbon scoop is $259, this one should be the same in carbon. I haven't quoted it out in fiberglass yet, but that should knock $35-$45 off of that cost. Both will be prepreg autoclaved stuff, best stuff there is.

The first one I had made was not bad, but clearance to the XB12 pipe was a bit too marginal, and once produced in CF, I could see some minor tweaks to the shape and the fit that I wanted to make. Better right than fast, so I opted to retool than release it as it was.

I used it on the shop bike for a bit before hacking on the first article to make the 2nd plug, I can't say I noticed that much change to the fan cycling while I was using it, but I didn't run it in very hot temps either. It looked nice in that it added a bit of symmetricality to the bike that wasn't there before.

Ive gotten some good experience with the Right side scoop. I live only 4 miles from work. Previously, every time I rode to work the fan would be on to cool the engine. Since I installed the scoop, the fan has only come on once for my commute and that was in almost 100 degree weather. So I believe it was worth the money. It showed up between 2-3 weeks with the rest of my mega Trojan order. I was really surprised by the quick turn around.

Has anyone bought the one off Ebay? It sells for about $190 and is CF. I bought the rear seat cowl off Ebay. I got what I paid for. It works but that is about all I can say.

Has anyone taken an oil temperature measurement before and after a right-scoop installation? I can see with all the testimonials that the increased air flow causes the fan to run less. My questions is: Is the engine being cooled or is just the temp sensor getting the increase in airflow thus, the fan runs less? Just curious.

The XBs cooling system is one area where the engineers must have put considerable time , thought , and testing in to.A right side scoop must have been considered. A guess is , it could be effective at highway speeds , but at traffic crawling speeds aright side scoop should close [butterfly flap] to pull the air over front cylinder fins for effective cooling[when fan is running]. Sir Blake , a long winded [ informative] , sceintific , fact based opinion would be helpful here, or must you take the 5th on this one?

For reference, the highest oil temp I have recorded is 180 degrees, taken from swingarm upon shutdown, after aggressive riding in 90 degree tempature. My KTM 640 single cylinder will average about 220 degrees oil temps under similar ride conditions.The Buell has maintained impressively low oil temps ,the swingarm is a great oil cooler.Using Amsoil 20/50 series 2000 racing oil.Synthetics are a must for cold tempatures,oil takes a long time to get to a respectable operating tempature. Ive ordered a stock right side scoop ,[cost like $11] going to try the ".53 cent scoop " as seen on other post and get some kind of tempature readings.

Tunes, the cylinder head temp sensor is buried right in the middle of the rear head, so it wouldn't be affected directly by extra airflow. I can read the head temp while riding along, anyone care to lend me their scoop for testing? : )

Another way of comparing cyl head temp before and after the scoop install...temporarily fit a multimeter that will record min/max voltages to the CHT sensor wire and go for a ride.

Opto, Ill give it a go. Need an explanation to decipher the voltage readings. Or you could try altered mounting of right side cover, it looks to be quite functional,just not trick.Or test with cover removed completely.

Is this AFTER the oil has been cooled, or before ??? It could be MUCH hotter in the sump/pan before it get's cooled by the cooler and the swing arm.

I thought the purpose of the fan was to cool the rear head so that oil puddling under the rocker cover isn't cooked? The tech at the dealer once told me that the fan won't come on until the head hits 440 degrees F... which is why I'm switching from straight dino after the 5,000 mile service.
