Court ... Have a safe flight.

I am almost through the 100 mile mark. I have started putting a little more pressure on the cylinders. A few 1/3 throttle runs from under 2000 to 3000-3500 making sure the rings start to form a good seal. I then let the bike cool. Once I pass 100 miles 1/2 throttle runs to 4000. You get the idea. Always once the bike is very warmed up and then let it cool for a while.
I did hear a slight "clunk" relating to the brakes also, but it is gone. It might have been the pads, I don't know. I only heard it 2-3 times in slow traffic. I didn't hear it today.

from ATC some closure to this issue

Quote:

There is a bunch of chatter on some of the other Buell sites about posts about the XB, that was removed from this site. A new XB owner had some questions about excessive tappet noise on his new bike. BMC noticed this post and contacted the owner to see if they could help. BMC and the local dealer took good care of this new owner and his bike. He was very impressed with all the help he recieved and asked us to remove the post because he didn't want to give the wrong impression about his XB. We removed them following his request. BMC wanted us to leave them up because they didn't want it taken the wrong way, by anyone. But it was too late, they had already been removed. So again we have some people bad mouthing us about something they know nothing about.
It makes me wonder why the hell we even try to do this?

To which I responded:

Quote:

That someone was me.

Removing the thread before the end of the story was revealed is more damaging than leaving it there for everyone to see. That's what I objected to and that's why I brought it up over on the other website after a HD/Buell PDC engineer posted asking for XB reports from the field.

I went to go look for the thread and it had disappeared, so I decided to point this out.

Jay, if you did it at his request that's fine, I apologize if it made it out to seem like you were in on a cover up of some sort, that was not my intent.

You can read the whole thread here

Jay, once again, I apologize if this hurt you in any way.

José (ATC #1351)

Josè and Jay, this episode confirms a few thing for me, one Buell cares a great deal about us owner and pay attention to what we are saying, and us owners are very passionate about these bikes.

To Jay:

I can't imagine any way you could construe any of the comments made about deleting posts on ATC as "bad-mouthing" -- everything said above regarding this subject seems pretty mature and responsible to me.

I'm guessing you might think twice before pressing the "vaporize" button next time, however.

And your "Makes me wonder why..." comment, where did THAT come from?

Anyway, keep up the good work. (By the way, I'm betting the hyperlink that Jose posted above to ATC doesn't disappear in the middle of the night...)

Methinks the mysterious clunk our new FB riders are hearing from the front end is indeed the rotor. There is nothing too different in the rotor mounting. A wave washer helps the rotor "float". A little bit of aggresive persuasion =) makes ours clunk back and forth.

Vik & Chop do a great job of moderating Sacborg. We pretty much get away with murder over there. Only a couple times has either of them stepped in & said cool it.

Personally I dont care for ATC, those of you that do, great, Just not my crowd, I tend to say whats on my mind & that would not go over so well there.

Dear Anonymous,
A Firebolt XB9R is a motorcycle that has received a lot of coverage for months now in Australia in all types of media ,ranging from the dedicated biker magazines, weekly newspapers even the Adelaide local paper and now it graces the cover of The Automotive Engineer, the journal of the Institute of Automotive Engineers Vol.66No3-May/June 2002.Yes it does exist as I was one of the first in Australia in February to sit on and drool over it.Ride it, no way that has only been the privilige of the Buell dealers, motorcyclist writers et al,up until the last week (May 4th)when I was invited the travel 12 hours down the highway to go for an extended test (2 hr)ride on a preproduction bike, sadly I have not been able to take up the offer at the moment. But I am told that they are on their way and I too will be able to once again wear the BUELL GRIN. Well they had better be bloody right or the momentum that has been generated by all and sundry's glowing reports will have been lost. Can you picture a prospective owner with magazine article in hand wanting to purchase said motorcyle and enjoy what these writers have tasted(one even tasted the tarmac after performing an agressive stoppie and bike landed on top of him(who said this ztl system has no bite)and also getting to play with tigers at DreamWorld) being told that we do not know when we will have one to sell you and there are people on the list in front of you who ponied up the deposit in July 2001 and they have not been told when they will be told of a delivery date.O.K. then looks like I might have to wander over to my local Ducati Dealer and check out his v twins if I want to go riding. My take on this is lost sales.I totally am behind Erik's Launch When Ready course of action and would have stood beside him in the "Greatest Pissing Contest in History"(When I say they are ready is when the will be ready)or something to that effect. With all the rumours that have happened I nearly weakened and purchased a Ducati s4, but I only want a Buell XB9R and at this point in time am sitting awaiting the telephone call to say"Send Me The Money" your bike is here. What is the point of all this I hear you say? Well in this age of computors and product planning(different specs for various markets)would it be to much to ask that what slow boat from East Troy are they on and when will it arrive ,not only for myself and other riders who have paid deposits but for all the people who have been bomdarded with ride reports et al will be able to be told yes the shipment will arrive xx/xx/02,whats your telephone number so as I can call you when they arrive.Sorry we have not been advised of a shipping date does not cut it in todays marketplace, somebody is holding out here and losing sales and we know we need all the sales we can muster considering that only 2 models are now be produced.( We in Australia do not import the Blast so make that one model for us)I do not believe that Buell is not working on new models to fill the niche that it has created, and again Launch When Ready still applies. Step forward Buell the momentum is slowing.

Dear Anonymous
I did not get to tell you of all the great things that make up an XB9R.Go to www.Buell.com for a sneak preview or locate your nearest dealer and stage a sit in untill they relent and let you drool on one in person. You will not be disappointed.

The XB9R is a motor bike which proposes many new technologies.
It gives impression to answer a pleasure of the behaviour within sizeable speed limits.
XB9R is the subject of many magazines articles and it seems that it is allready available in Europe!!
I lives in Pacifict, in New Caledonia, our dealer supplies himself in Australia.
Does anybody know when the Australian market will have XB9R in sufficient number?
Where can I get XB9R sound file or can somebody recorded it?
I always drove motor Japanese & Italian bikes and I sold all at the end 2001.
Waiting for riding XB9R is long.
Excuse my bad English.

I took a ride on a Firebolt at the Buell demo ride day at Heritage Harley Davidson-Buell in Edmonton (Canada) on Saturday. This bike is a huge leap forward for Buell. Very light, flickable, and the suspension is sooo plush and compliant yet still controls the bike perfectly. It makes my M2 feel a little truckish. My wishes would include about 20 more BHP and slightly lower pegs and slightly higher bars but thats just because my arms are too short and my knees don't bend like they used to.

You know people are talking about various upgrade kits for the firebolt without knowing what it is they are talking about. The fire bolt and the Blast use pistons from a 1203cc Buell already. The smaller displacement comes from a shorter stroke. Lengthen the stroke and you give up RPM's so that leaves making a bigger bore. if one used the Blast as a guide then the following displacements are possible 1030cc, 1190cc and 1480cc. From what I understand Brian Nallin has done a lot of work on the blast engine much of which can be transplanted to to the Firebolt. I'm sure that some of that same type of work was done to the Hal's racing Firebolt but it's not the same as hopping up a tube frame Buell...for all it's similar looks the engine is more different than it is the same.

What a great weekend for riding here in PA.
Mother's day was a bit of a fly in the ointment but luckily my in-laws live up state.

I'm wondering if the Buell guy who was having a talk with a state trooper north on I-95 just after the Bristol exit is anyone from here?

I went by at 3000rpm 55mph and thought if it wasn't for the break in that could have been me.
I know it's the law but if your not being reckless or endangering others than please just let people ride.

The bike was great no bike problems a few rider errors, still getting used to it.
I am actually thankful for the break in, I think I would have killed myself by now if I hadn't been trying to keep the speed down.

Okay one down thing, I took the seat off to install a battery tender cable, when I put the seat back on I put to much pressure on the on the bracket that holds the seat on and it bent.
It's a little weak, but I must also point out that a person with average intelligence probably could have done it correctly without bending it.

Carter, Did you get yours from Brians HD/Buell? Just curious thats all. I wanted to ride it but they said "YA Right" Incindius laughter followed. I was hoping I don't have to go to Whites again. They are good people just a little far away.

Tony: 1021cc (3-9/16 bore), 1169cc (3-13/16 bore), and 1426cc (3-13/16 bore x 3-13/16 stroke).

Did you know an "88 inch" motor is really 87.046ci? Years ago I had a 325cc Honda 350, too. It's common in the business to round displacement numbers up. But when you double a rounded figure, you're that much farther off.

A word on the Bodywork on the Firebolt. BE CAREFUL when cleaning it. Use only EXTREMELY soft cloths, I wiped up a spot with a Terry cloth towel and scratched the finish!! I will be able to polish it out, but dang the finish is soft.
