So I guess I have an excuse to do the painting and stuff that I've been wanting to do! I was out stunting with some of my friends yesterday and I burned out my clutch! Everything was fine till I decided it would be cool to learn how to do rolling burnouts. It pisses me off more than anything because it isn't that cool or that hard of a trick! I also fried a my dash/tail light fuse somehow. It has been frying that fuse ever since I put my Ermaxx undertail on. I wish I had some pictures of the standup wheelies I was riding for you guys. I've found the balance point on my 12R, and let me tell you it is a lot higher than I thought it would be. Having all that centralized weight is awesome till you put it up on one and want to sit at the balance point. I still think the XB is great to stunt on though. That torque is great for riding wheelies. Anyone else stunting their XB? I know the guy in KC and some of the other sponsered guys, but what about us normal guys? Just me? BTW: I try not to stunt on the street, I'm more of a parking lot guy. |

Check for a wire grounding for the blown fuse. I'm willing to bet you just have some exposed wire somewhere. |

Thanks for the tip Dago. I'm going to paint that ugly mag part that holds the dash on while I'm painting the frame, so while I'm taking the dash apart and putting it back together I'll be sure to look for exposed wires. Nice burn on the Kellen Winslow comment Carveman. I'm not some squid newbie with now experience on a bike like him though. Some people think that just because they have the money they should stunt. I stunt because I come from a motocross background and two wheels on the ground just isn't a rush for me. |

Before you decide your clutch is toast, pull out the manual and adjust it again. Even after being stuck in 4th gear and having a 50 mile canyon climb, once I drained and changed the fluid, I managed to get another 2 weeks out of mine before you could roll it around in gear with the engine on or off Replaced with EnergyOne mfg extra plate Sportster Buell clutch kit at $75 plus shipping. Been an AWESOME clutch since. |

Be sure to look at the wiring you did to install the Ermax too. That's where mine was occurring. But then again, I went from an S to R and had to lengthen my wires. You may not have had to do that. BTW, Daves is full of $h1t. But he's the man for replacement parts. |

Your not the only one stuntin' your XB, I have been learning slowly, do not want to crash this one!! Standing wheelies are still kinda wobbly, sitting second gears are getting to be second nature, stoppies are the most fun right now!!! This bike can kick the back end up so effortlessly, I tried one at about 80mph the other day but it started to walk sideways so I let out before something bad happened, I like to get the back up around 45mph, it will get high fast and then you can coast, way cool feeling. |

Not a burn Olinxb12r, just stating that you & your buddy Kellen both like riding in parking lots.

New12r, you've got no problems with 2nd? I've got standing wheelies no problem, but 2nd is still escaping me. I can get the tire off the ground, but no high enough to ride the wheelie out. I did start shifting from 1st to 2nd though because it's been pissing me off that I can't do 2nd gear wheelies. By the way I'm bone stock (as far as power anyway), so that might be the difference between your wheelies and mine. I assume you're clutching 2nd? I can't wait to get a Jardine to take some weight off the front end! $$$$ is my only problem. (Message edited by olinXB12R on July 11, 2005) |

I'd definitely adjust the clutch again before I wrote it off. I've never been comfortable with standup wheelies (long ones) and feel much safer sitting down. The longest wheelie I've ever done in my life was on the Buell - about 1/8 of a mile sitting down, balancing the bike in second gear. Stoppies can really scare me, and I want to be better at them, but I've warped 2 rotors already on my tube framer. |

I've gotten myself to the point where I'm a lot more stable standing, and now I feel squirely sitting. I felt really ackward when I first started doing standups, but now I feel like it's the only way! |

xb12s with the jardine here. I found the balance for 1st and 2nd gear wheelies too, and yes it is high. Feels like the tail is gonna drag. Haven't played much with the standing part. It's tougher on the S due to higher bars. I get more respect from the rice burners when riding next to them at about 55 on the back tire. |

I get more respect from the rice burners when riding next to them at about 55 on the back tire } I'm sure you do! That is what I'm trying to learn how to do. I love doing the slow stuff in the parking lots, but I would also like to be up on one with the guys in the front of the group rides. I don't like stunting on the street very much, but I'd like to have the skills to do it if I want to.} |

On the stand up wheelies, are you guys standing on the passenger pegs? I have a 12s with the passenger pegs removed. BTW are there any OLD stunters out there? Im 41, would really like to learn some basic stuff however oldness prevents me from doing the basics like stoppies. In my experience, stoppies always lead to crashies. This was however before they had a name like stoppies and people were actually trying to do them. |

Stoppies scare the crap out of me, but I love wheelies. To each his own. |

I do them with one foot on the passenger peg and one covering the rear brake so I can slow myself down if I think I'm going to loop it! I can do them that way or with both on the rider or passenger pegs. I don't feel comfortable unless I can cover the rear brake, so you won't catch me with both on the passenger pegs very often. As for stoppies, they scare the crap out of me too. If you want to learn how to do them start out by pulling the front brake in hard from just over 20. This will bring the back up and you don't have to worry about controlling a roll because you will just stop. Then increase the speed from there after you mastered the low speeds. I've rolled a few out, but it freaks me out. Age doesn't matter man. If you want to do it, go for it. |

I cant for the life of me, get my 9R to pull the wheel up in 2nd. In first, a little squeeze & release of the clutch at 5-10 mph brings it right up. I can ride the rear wheel in 1st till I run out of gear. I've tried for nearly a year now but 2nd is just not happening. Ive tried liftoff from bumps, clutching & slipping, clutching & dumping, tugging on the clip-ons like a monkey, but nothing! I've redlined the tach & released the clutch but still the front tire remains on the ground, although that approach does cause my drivebelt to skip teeth and make a terrible noise which scares everybody away! I guess that could be considered fun? |

Saintly: Your drive belt should NEVER slip. May want to check into that. As far as the 2nd gear wheelies; your clutch cable may be too tight? Does it feel like you just got rearended by a truck when you dump the clutch? If not, something is wrong. |

Personally I like stoppies, probably because it's good practice for panic stops. We have a lot of deer around here and a few really scary drivers. I'm starting to get pretty good at stopping the X1 and being able to pick up the back wheel at will. I'm not very good at wheelies though because I don't see the point most of the time. Unless I'm doing them on corner exit anyway, then I'm grinning in my helmet like a maniac. |

I would like to come back to the 2nd gear wheelie. I am handicapped like Saintly - can't get the wheel up, not even one inch, off the ground with my 9S. What gives?? Any suggestions for a wheelie addict? |

2nd gear wheelies need their own post. Anybody getting up and HOW? |

Run the engine up in first gear to about 6g and shift hard. It will come up, no problem. |

I can yank the front end up on my M2 in second without the clutch, but everything has to be perfect. If I time it just right, the front end comes up enough for me to power it up to the balance point. If I don't time it right, I look like an idiot going through all that effort for a 2" wheelie. I do this sitting down, but I imagine it would be easier if I were standing up. I rode an XB9 and found it much easier to wheelie, but I never tried to power it up in second (demo ride no-no). It has to be easier to yank up in second than my M2. |

My 99 X1 was a b i a c h to wheelie. that bike just did not like the front up. I'm wheelieing in 2nd on a 12 with Jardine, never rode a 9. So my comments may not count. Adjusting the suspension setting will make a huge difference on wheelies also. My suspension is still stock. 1st gear no clutch = front waaay up. 2nd gear with clutch = front way up. 3rd gear with high rpm and clutch = front hop. |

Clutching it up in second is easy on any Buell. It's hard not to wheelie when you powershift into 2nd. |

Dj: Don't generalize. It's obviously not easy on all Buells. If it was this thread would be a lot shorter. Like I said with my X1. |

I would think that a properly running X1 would even be easier to power up in second. The harder "hit" in the powerband would help. X1's are wheelie machines (when running well). Even the older, less powerful Buells were noted for easy wheelies. |

X1............easy. More torque than my 9(stock). Do the same procedure that I listed above (may not need as many rpm. |
