My XB's kickstand bolt broke the other day at the gas station. Fortunately it happen there where I could pick up all the parts and not as I was riding. The bolt that goes through the kickstand clevis looks very substantal from the outside but it's a shoulder bolt with a rather small diameter thread. My friend, who raced blown alcohol funny cars said it looked like fatigue from vibration. He would know as they delt with this problem all the time on the FC. Luckily an inexpensive hardware store bolt and washer got me back on the road in short order. You may want to back your's out and check for a fracture, it's an easy bolt to get to and could save you from watching your bike fall over. (Luckily I caught mine before it dropped!!) |

I'm glad to hear this post helped a few of you out! My dealer actually had a replacement bolt in stock but said it had been superseeded by a new number. He didn't know why they'd changed the number or if it had been redesigned. They gave it to me under warranty, I've only got two months left, and even offered to install it for me but I could see they were swamped so I did it myself. I thought it was cool that they offered, though! I asked about a recall but there wasn't one on the 2004 models |

No recall. Recall is for a handfull of '05 XB models where the bolt was slightly too short (supplier issue?). Bolt is replaced with a .100 inch longer bolt (or 2.5mm for the metrics among us). Only applies to motorcycles built between January 11th and January 17th 2005. |

motorcycles.about.com/library/recalls/blmotorecalls012a.html Or www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/124645.html?1121296216 These should get you what you need to know. |

Hey Ralph just wanted to thank you for the heads up on that bolt, I checked and sure enough where the thread hits the base of the spacer it was on the downside of the thread ,therefore being that mouch smaller. Sure enough fractured! Thanks again for saving me $!!!!! |
