Thanks to the excellent service provided by Daves , I now have my new filter, race ECM and D&D exhaust for my XB12R. It looks likes this will be the perfect weekend to install everything, as Hurricane "Dennis the Menace" appears to be planning a wet weekend for us here in SW FL. Any words of advice on how to install the pipe, desnorkel the airbox, etc., would be greatly appreciated. I have the service manual, and have read many words of wisdom on this sight. Unfortunately, I seem to forget more than I remember, so any "last minute" advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

If I remember right, you might want to have a 13mm deep well socket. I'm know the rear clamp on my race can required that, not sure if the stock can uses the same clamp. I would definitely find out, nothing worse than getting all into a project to have to stop and go buy a tool. Other than that have fun, it's pretty easy stuff, I think the snorkel comes out the airbox and the muffler is pretty self explanatory. Oh yeah, check the clearances on your chin spoiler after putting the D&D on, you may have to bend a bracket or two out to keep it from rubbing on stuff(clutch cable, wires). Good luck and let us know how it turns out. |

It was pretty much a piece of cake to install. I just followed the manual to the tee to remove the exhaust. Read the directions twice if not more, and you'll be fine. As far as de-snorkeling, just reach up there and push it through. That's all I did. Or grab it from the top and pull it up. A couple quick searches will come up with lots of info!! You'll love the pipe, I love mine. It's loud, and I had to buy some ear plugs for the long rides. |

After almost 3 years with my D&D I'm kind of sick of it. Too loud after 1am,and pops BAD on decel, front bracket stressed cracked(but hasn't got any worse after a stop hole.) I'll probably either drummerize or do the Europe thing by next year BUT the pipe IS loud proud n makes her stand up REAL easy at or about 3.5k+ (Message edited by buelltroll on July 08, 2005) |

Well according to a DECENT buell shop theres ABSOLUTELY nothing out of tune with my bike and it has popped since day one,I'm PRETTY damn sure I'm not the only one who has said the D&D pops n no matter how you tune it ,it doesn't go away so I guess you have the magic one that doesn't pop. |

Troll I'm not doubting you.But heck I just heard quite a few Buells do a parade lap at Road America during Homecoming.Al's from American Sport bike and quite few others. Some did pop some didn't but the question is why???You might want to maybe try pulling those pro series wire that were ment for a Tuber off and try the stockers. |

The wires are not meant for tubers they are a perfect fit and look almost identical to the stock ones,My girl DOES run a bit lean so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.I think if u use some type of fuel management with a D&D it would never pop,TFI,PCIII or megasquirt would more than likely smooth the whole a/f ratio out,but then you need dyno time to get it dialed in,Either way the D&D is a nice loud pipe that performs well I'm sure the orig. poster will be more than happy with it,I'm just sick of mine and plan on changing it. |

Just put a D&D on last weekend. I'm new to the labor aspect of performance upgrades and it took me about two hours to complete the task. I kept the idle pulley on and it was a little tough. I started the back brackets off the holder and slipped them on, makes it a lot easier to put the nuts on. The exhaust sounds awesomely loud and does pop on decel on my 12. Have the race ecm an just had 1K service done at dealer. They said the bike was running lean as well.} |

I'm wondering if putting the snorkel back would cure the lean problem. Less air + more fuel right? Do you guys with the popping have a modified air box? (swiss cheesed or eliminated?) |

I have a D&D on my XB9R along with a K&N air filter and XB12 airbox. The snorkel was removed by the previous owner. Race kit installed as well. Yes, it is LOUD and I wear ear plugs every time I go riding. I'm sure that I wake the neighborhood when I get home at 2:15 in the morning. No complaints so far. As far as the "popping" is concerned, mine does the same thing, but only if I de-accelerate fast and/or down shift. |
