That's pretty gross! Good thing we don't have bugs like that in Boston!

I've done much worse mate. I believe my father holds the record though, Coast to Coast in 50 hours-his Harley had layers of bugs on top of other bugs. Get yourself a chameleon or some other insect eating reptile. After a ride just drop your gear in the tank and it'll love you. |

For a minute there, I thought that was one of those new Buell paint-jobs!?!? You could always wear your rainsuit at night!?!? If you only rode at night, eventually the whole fairing would be covered, and the "paint" would never fade! Yeh, I hate riding at night too... |

That is why I would never ride without a full face helmet |

What's really a bummer about the bugs is that, unlike just about everything else, they DO NOT taste like chicken! |

Northern Michigan-Same problem at night. When the sun goes down, I head home or I'm completely covered in bugs. |

How can you tell a happy biker? By the bugs in his teeth! which you must've got, judging by that dark mirrored shield. Ray |

"Hey night riding up here in Maine the buzzing hordes of bugs arn't the problem Get a Moose on your windscreen and you have a real problem splat!!!" Grew up in Skowhegan.... Moose bad yes deer just as bad here but the BUUUUUUUUGS are aboot a kajillion times worse in Nd. Believe it or not that bike was washed less than 3 hours before n I've had a few 3-4 days buildup before. Hellllllllllllllll no I rode with the sheild down,Its got a yellow driving type tint to it from the inside. (Message edited by buelltroll on July 08, 2005) |

We're in the midst of the annual invasion by "Canadian Soldier" bugs.....look like large mosquitoes, but thankfully, they dont bite. They dont limit business hours to the night time, unfortunately. A tip to all who have never tried it: the easiest way to remove the bug guts from the bike is to drape a wet towel over the bug-crusted area and let it sit on there for a while....come back in an hour, remove the towel, and they wipe right off. Of course, having the bike well-waxed in advanced helps. Oh yes, your significant other will NOT appreciate it if you then just put the towel in with the regular laundry......BT,DT |

Another good trick is to use Rain-X on the windshiled and face mask. It won't keep the bugs off but it makes cleaning much easier. Rob |

Right now, the "river moths" are out locally--tiny moth-like insects that form clouds in the evening anywhere near a river. Riding into a cloud is kinda like riding into a hailstorm--you can feel 'em hit, your helmet is instantly covered, they get up inside your full-face...and your bike's covered worse than Buelltroll's after a half-hour ride. Thankfully, they only last about three weeks. |

Buelltroll - "Grew up in Skowhegan..." Your profile says Northern CA is next. There may be room for you in NorCal, I swapped Sonoma, CA for Ellsworth, ME in 2001. I was a native but it got too crazy for me. No regrets, I'm retired and never moving again. The black flies are gone for now but the rest of the bugs are still here, you can hear and feel some of them even through a Darian jacket. Jack |

The bit I like is seeing the other bugs feeding of the splatted remains of their former mates once you park up. |
