Opto, don't chill out. I for one appreciate your input here. Tunes, I'll keep my fingers & toes crossed for ya. I know now is a very frustrating time for you but if the problem gets resolved you'll soon forget all about it after a couple rides. If they end up replacing the whole bike then all I can say is Wow! That's taking care of a customer. |

That was my point, Opto. LoL. When I had my Gixxer I had a short with a wire bundle that ran through the frame. It was a muthah to track down. Just another reason to love the elegant simplicity of the XB design. |

You guys kill me!! LOL For me, all input is welcome... and it's a great place to get all sorts of differing ideas and opinions. Since there have been several of us with fuse blowing problems, could the members who had this problem please list them? I would take it upon myself to take this info to Buell, just for the members who had the problem. I don't want to get anyone into hot water either. I have no problem letting Buell know about my problem and this issue. I'm sure they'd appreciate feedback from the owners. |

I think you have a good idea. I'm sure Buell would appreciate this being brought to their attention so that they can prevent it on future bikes and increase their reliability status. We with the fuse problem are but a small few but it is worth mentioning. |

funny thing to me was, if you look at the manual for the sensor, its not connected to the ignition fuse. I dont have the manual with me but i do know its connected to 2 fuses. |

That's what I found "enlightening" Mookie, the VSS gets its power only from the ecm, which is only fused through the "ignition" fuse, and the "ecm" fuse which is connected to the "keep alive" input on the ecm which always gets battery voltage even when the keys aren't in the bike... Very unusual. BTW thanks for the laughs guys |

This is the latest. Buell returned the dealerships call about the IGN fuse blowing problem. According to the dealership, Buell told them to stop screwing around with the bike and replace the harness. It takes 1 WEEK for the dealer to get a harness. Most likely it will take them 1 week to install the thing.... Not a happy camper here!! |

That sucks. They should have ordered the harness after the third or fourth day of unsuccess. At least Buell (the factory) stepped up. Though I don't understand why they can't ship the harness next day or second day air? |

Hi guys, I had a similar problem with my 03 XB9S, blowing ign fuses early on , about 3000kms on clock. After numerous trips to my local Harley dealer, it turned out to be a dodgy coil. After replacement, I have had no problems, touch wood!! Anyway, thats my fuse story!! MATT |

I contacted MY/OUR Buell dude up here in NE... He said he could have the harness shipped next day or second day air... So that's what I told the service manager, after I told him I was picking up my bike and bringing it to a dealer who knew what they were doing. Without going into all the gory details, I told them why I was pulling the bike and commented about their lack of enthusiasm or empathy towards me and my bike problem. I got the corporate standard, "It takes a week to get parts from Harley." Which I pointed out that I don't own or ride a !&%#! harley. They said it was all the same to them... and I repeated that I don't own or ride a !&%#! harley and I could care less what problems they have with harley... I ride a Buell and I expect to get service on my BUELL and don't say the harley word again! The service manager begged me to let him try and get a harness sooner than the 1 week they "stone-faced" said to me... The harness will arrive Monday and the tech will be working on the bike Monday. I reinterated that I will pull the bike from them in favor of another dealer if I get one more line of karp. One thing that puzzles me is that they're telling me, Buell told them to replace the harness.... They have yet to replace ANYTHING on the bike other than fuses. So, if the harness changes nothing, then what? Oh, I don't want to go there.... but I have an alternative - my buddies dealership, which I know will take care of me, one way or the other. Rumguzzler - Thanks for the tip. I've been keeping a file of all the failures "youz guyz" have been telling me... and I pass them along to the dealer. I'm not sure if he's even listening to me... I have my doubts. (Message edited by Tunes on July 08, 2005) |

Thats odd, I thought I was the only guy to blow the ignition fuse in my xb, I have an '03 xb9r. I have only blown 2 of them since I have owned it, I have put 20k miles on it. How about anyone have the trouble with the headlight ground in the connector to the headlights. Mine burned up and I had to connect the headlight ground to the forks top triple tree!! -Marc |

I am wondering about Accessory Fuse being blown? I have blown three times but the first time with 7.5 amp which in few min blown. The third time is 10 amps and last about two weeks then blown. I have traced the wire and it seems anywhere from the battery or Orange/White wire but cant find the source which may cause to overload the circuit. Any idea? |

Buellridersww - Give me a little bit to look thru my service manual. I won't promise anything, but I'll give it a try... Update on my IGN fuse blowing prob. The tech replaced the harness, just like Buell told him to. After installing said new harness, and while the bike was still partially disassembled, he looked into the area around the fuel pump... and found that one of the fuel pump wires had rubbed thru and was shorting against the frame. Because the exposed wire is very close to the pump body, the pump is being replaced. No, the new harness didn't fix the fuse blowing problem... So, after a 3 week roller coaster ride, the bike is coming home. Again, I want to thank everyone who participated in this discussion... and I especially appreciate the moral support! It was very educational and, other than the bike being gone, it was fun too! For me in particular, it was theraputic! I raise my glass to you all!

Are you saying it was the fuel pump wire this whole time? Wow, 3 weeks and you have remained calm & mellow. I tip my hat to you Sir. |

Metalstorm - Yes, one of the fuel pump wires chaffed thru and was intermittently shorting to the frame/ground. "...remained calm and mellow." I wouldn't go that far. I have gotten frustrated due to the dealers rote answer of "it takes a week to get parts." After I told them I was going to pull the bike in favor of another dealer, things got better, believe it or not... My comment was, "If I can get parts from Buell in 2-3 days, why can't you?" and "I didn't see or hear anyone try to get my harness sooner... I don't see anyone caring that my bike is still dead after 2+weeks." Also, I'm cautiously optimistic that I will be riding the bike soon. I hate to say this but, after 3 weeks, I was getting used to NOT having the XB. Sucks, huh... If the tech hadn't decided to check the fuel pump area, the bike would still be blowing fuses with no end in sight. I'd have flipped by then and brought the bike to someone else...and based on what was found, THEY would have the opportunity to go nuts trying to find this shorted wire. I'm adding this to my list of "Things that blow IGN fuses." |

By now if it was me tearing my hair out I would be installing temporary fuses in the injectors, coil, ecm, fuel pump.... Then instead of blowing one fuse and being no wiser, the fuse that does blow will point to the culprit. I'm glad they finally found the problem Tunes, I guess the techs involved could call it a very good learning experience. |
