Chase (Nasty73z), Why did your thread get deleted? Soliciting publicly on BadWeB for a group purchase of non-sponsor merchandise constitutes a form of non-sponsor marketing which is strictly prohibited on BadWeB. Imagine how the sponsors who pay to keep the site up and running would feel on seeing such activity allowed to propagate on BadWeB. It is very important, vital even, that we maintain the value of sponsorship on BadWeB so that we can afford to pay the ever growing operating costs of the site. Allowing anyone who so desires to petition all of BadWeB to participate in a group-buy of non-sponsor merchandise would horribly erode the value of sponsorship on the board, which in turn would erode sponsorship, which in turn would lead to insolvency and the demise of the site. Thank you for understanding. My personal view is that the Pit Bull stands are not "ridiculously overpriced." I've used wheel stands of various price and design. The Pit Bull stands are head and shoulders above any other stand I've used. You get what you pay for. That said, I understand being strapped for cash and in college. My view is that the Lockhart-Phillips are the best bargain version wheel stands I've seen/used. Also, if you can talk one of our sponsors into handling the deal that you were working on, that would be fine. But please persue that offline and understand that the sponsor must be the party who solicits the sales, not you, not any other non-sponsor. Nothing against you personally, just need to protect the integrity of the board and the value of sponsorship for those who pay the bills. Again, thanks for understanding, Blake (chief custodian - BadWeatherBikers.com) (Message edited by blake on June 25, 2005) |

And I apologize for failing to provide this explanation yesterday upon removal of your original thread. I realize that this scenario is easy to overlook as non-sponsor advertising and I should have had the patience to explain the reason for removing your thread. My bad. Sorry for that. |

So if I have a bauble that I think others might want for their Buell (even though I only have 5 of them) I have to pay to be a sponsor or I can't mention it here in a thread? Or posts a link to it? (Message edited by bubabuell on June 25, 2005) |

Blake this situation has risen and risen in recent times and your resolve has not wavered one bit. What has changed for the better is the manner in which you explain the whys and wherefores of your actions and this your latest is a tribute to your most recent humbleness with things BadWeB and it's nice to see you not having to get into a cockfight over these issues. A most gracious sermon you could not have delivered bettered and I for one thank you for making IT happen. I think it's fair to say that with many new sponsors appearing over recent times that we all owe you a big thanks for your efforts. It surely must be a time consuming health hazard keeping us sweet. Big up to ya mate Rocket |

Paul, You are 99% correct. What one may do in a case such as you describe is to post a single solitary ad in our "Links" topic. BadWeB exists for the benefit of the Buell enthusiasts' community at large, not for the personal exploitation of individuals seeking to make a profit or get a start in business. We have ebay for that. Guess what, ebay charges a fee for providing that service. If someone set up their own garage sale in the local Goodwill store's parking lot, how do you suppose store management would react? Hey, they just have a few baubles they wanted to sell, what's the harm? I hope you can see the reasoning behind our strict policy. It is not to lord over or wage control or stern authority over individuals; the BadWeB policy is purely to protect the integrity of our little corner of the web for Buell enthusiasts and to ensure that it will always be able to be self-supporting. Thanks for understanding. I hope we can count on you and others who read this to help uphold board policy in the future.
Thanks Rocket, I gotta admit, it hurt me terribly to squeeze that much diplomacy from my otherwise blunt personality. The thing that most irritates me is having to spend my free time on such issues. I really wish more users here would step up and help maintain the integrity of the board and defend its policies; it's unfortunate but some inevitably view BadWeB as some sort of entitlement for their own personal gratification. If all the rest of us would make an effort to help confront violations of board policy, it sure would make my life a LOT nicer. Thanks for the nice words. |

I personally gratify myself here every day!! But seriously: Blake, that is a great post!! Not to make life difficult, but this thread should be "stuck" in a place where everyone can easily understand "what's up"!! And maybe I should post this in a more appropriate place like "suggestions for a better Badweb". We need a place to easily view the (not so strict in my opinion) rules of The Badweb. Thanks for the site and for bringing all these great folks together, I love this place!! tank |

Funniest thing I've read in quite a while. Blake, thanx for making this place happen. It's been my internet home for 6 years, and has saved me much money. (Parts and therapy) |

Blake, I thank you too, as well as the other admins. I have never participated in a site before, and love this one. Unbelievable group of people here. It's made me feel a part of the Buell culture, which is new to me. This is the first automotive brand loyalty I've ever had. |

Blake - The thread turned from "This is cool and cheap" to "Let's buy this" very quickly. I originally added my name to the list without paying attention to the possibility of this being a problem. Some of us are doing this at work and between stuff, so our minds are busy and not paying attention. Thanks for clarifying things. I usually try to step up when I can about the rules... |
