Bike has a little over 10k on it, has been running great the past three months, since I changed the plugs, no pinging. But, since about 3000 miles, it would have this little cough, kind of a misfire or stumble. It would happen once, about 3 -5 miles down the road ( yes almost the same distance every time) upon the first ride of the day. It was like it was shut off for a split second, usually at cruz, but would also happen under load. It was occasional, and I shrugged it off as a warm up thing. Well, now its gotten to be a daily thing, and it will happen constantly until the bike is warmed up. It is also more of a noticeable backfire than a cough. I am getting aggravated, and my morning ride now has me throttling it like I am launching from a drag strip, and slipping the clutch, just to avoid the belch/cough/spit syndrome. Reminds me of the sportster I had in '84 that kept me from looking at another HD product for almost 20 years. Any ideas | ||

Have you had your TPS and AFV reset? If not that's part of the 10K. Also, if you didn't do it check your primary chain. It won't cause the hesitation your getting but it needs to be done. TPS = Throttle Position Sensor AFV = Air Fuel Value (I think) | ||

Check your spark plugs. Have they been checked in a while. I know my 04 12R did this when my brother fouled my plugs this past weekend until I rode it and cleaned it out. If it starts to do it again I will change the plugs. Just a idea. I hope this helps. | ||

It is possible you got a bad tank of gas that has left residue within the tank. The residue is clogging the fuel filter momentarily, and with a few more bad tanks it is getting to be more consistent. As you continue to ride the fuel starts moving around the tank more and pulls the sediment away until it once again settles as the bike sits. |
