New to the Buell world and have a question on desnorkling. Tried search and found nothing so thats the reason for post. What gains if any can I expect from doing this? Mind you that will be the only "mod" as of right now due to lack of funds. After that I was looking at race ecm then exhaust. Anyone willing to point me in the right direction? |

How much, if any, gain from removing the snorkle will be mostly conjecture. It Should help to reduce restriction to air flow, but how much is anyone's guess. I would guess 1 hp or less. It may increase intake noise if previous experience with japanese bikes is any guide. (Message edited by diablobrian on June 21, 2005) |

i'd say minimal, if any for a otherwise stocker. Does your 05 come with the xb12 type airbox cover? (a cone on the inside top). if not, thats a good cheap upgrade. |

Snorkel removal is usually done in conjuntion with 12S/R inner airbox cover (if your 9R is pre '05), and the Pro Air Filter. I did the plugs also. Part No.s in my profile. Is basically getting rid of some EPA restrictions and letting the engine breath. Smoothes things out a bit. |

Its an 05 just clocked 800 miles. new baby limits funds availability and was curious as to weather this mod did anything or not. Must add I do have a K&N in there as well. Thinking exhaust next then race ecm. Thanks for quick replies |

Not a lot, but it does. You have an 05 so you already have the better airbox cover. Removing the snorkle cost $0. Pro Air filter is $65 (and is cleanable / reusable). If you're tight on funds, the very best additions are the Buell frame pucks and the Dark Horse Moto axle sliders. Bar ends. Them's will protect your investment. Should end up under $200 Doing anything to protect yourself? Helmets can be had on ebay for $50. Armored jackets around $100. Enjoy the darn thing |

Have all the appropriate riding gear as I've been on two wheels forever it seems 20 some odd years. Trying to get answers on how to modify on the cheap. Unlike my previous ride (ZX9) its a little harder to do. I must admit though its easier than my sporty was and a lot more fun to ride than both of em. thanks for the input |

best "cheap" mod.....A track school if you've never been to one, or just a track day if you have. You will gain more by sharpening your skills than by changing your bike. This is true of all bikes, but even more so on your xb9r. This isn't a put down, so don't take it that way. I am not trying to flame anyone. There is always a little more to learn and skills must constantly be honed to a fine edge. |

been looking into track school and have heard of one somewhere in Pocono but have been unable to find any info. I also agree that it is better than any performance mod. Guess I just miss the high horsepower of my ZX. But on the other hand my XB whips its in the twisties. Trade off ? yes but I still want a tad bit more grunt. and Diablobrian no offense taken I agree whole heartedly. |
