Hi all, I've had my 2003 XB9S for two weeks. Love it! Thanks Edison Buell/HD and XBCrazy! Anywho, I've done the snorkelectomy and the airboxotomy, but I'm looking for more. What is the HP gain/loss from changing the color of the plastics? I always assumed Black was fastest/most HP, but after seeing some of the pics on site I'm not so sure. Anybody get any increase in performance by switching to another color? I love this bike!!!! |

Check out the Drummer muffler in the sponsors section. I've got one and it really makes a difference. |

I have a '04 XB12R and have put a D&D, Race ECM, and K&N Air Filter and did the snorkel / air box mods and it now runs like a totally different bike. Real good and the sound of the D&D are awesome. |

My investigation into the "fast color" phenomena lead me to these conclusions: 1. Silver offers the most HP increase than any other color..., at least 15% more. However, black does have the largest increase in torque. 2. Oil change - at least 10% more HP and torque, unless you have to use an oil you don't like. Then you lose 15% and your bike is also noisier. 3. Wash - 5%. Wax - 5%. However, if you was and wax, you get a 15% increase. Synergy, my friends, synergy. 4. Compliments from another rider can give you a 2% increase. Compliments from a pretty girl can add as much 20% depending on how good looking the girl is. 5. Decibels add power. The louder your bike, the more powerful it is. 6. Decals add power, but too many decals decrease power. 7. Matching helmet will increase power. 8. Leather jacket will add power - Vansons add the most. 9. Full racing suit - more power. 10. If your bike is featured in a movie - yeah, more power. |

Don't forget new riding gear! New helmet with cool racy graphics will boost power by at least 5% as will new racy looking form-fitting leathers and racing boots. Knee pucks alone will add another 10%. Great thread. It's about time that all the wise veterans shared these heretofore confidential performance hints with the general public. One more... you can gain another 5% performance if you respond to the friendly hand waves of others by flashing them the back-handed "hookem' horns" sign. |

From what happened this past weekend I'd say if black is worth 10% then half black half orange vr1000 style must be good for 20%. We'll try to get dyno time to verify this. |

One more... mounting up a set of racing tire take-offs from the local track is worth another 10% more power. |

Actually I think that the biggest gain is when you are trying to get away from your significant other and they do not what you to be riding at that time!!!!!! |

I think yellow looks faster, but black is much cooler! |

I'm kind of wondering if the translucent blue might be the best boost. Kind of a "so fast you can't really see it" phenomena. Than again, that LeMans Blue of Signguy has got to be worth at least 20% increase in something. So many options, only one bike. Sigh. |

Mirrored or dark smoke faceshields make you faster too. Repeatedly blipping the throttle at a stop-light makes the engine 5% more powerful, 10% if you have a loud muffler. |

OK, so on Father's Day, I washed my bike. My wife, who is extremely hot, said it looked "Pimpin'!". I then put my matching helmet and jacket on, drove off and waved at a couple of bikers as I was driving down the road. Based on everyone's input, I ran all these through my handy-dandy "Dyno simulator" here at work (since I don't actually have a dyno). Interesting thing...my 2003 freshly washed and complimented-by-a-hottie Black XB9S, combined with my matching black helmet and armored jacket, the snorkelectomy and airboxotomy, polished headers and the friendly wave to other bikers, achieved an estimated max HP of 138 and a max torque of 112.1 ft/lbs @ 5600 RPM. I've got the plot to prove it! Hmmmm....maybe I need to wrap the exhaust headers for that little extra. Or maybe wrap the whole bike? |
