How about a full battletrax run on a Firebolt, including a wheelie and a stoppie? Click here |

Mancuso H-D got an XB9R on Friday and I sat on it Saturday. Wow, if I had only waited 2 more weeks. My salesman said he'd see what he'd can give me for a 2 week old X1. 3k less!!! If they would have made me an even trade, the XB9R would have been mine. Even if I bought it, I couldn't take it home until they got another. It's some rule H-D has. There must be one on the floor at all times. That should piss off some people who have been on the waiting list for the past 6-8 months. Even more so when they find out everyone who comes in will be fondling it and sitting on it. I guess they'll at least get visitation rights. The riding position is so much better and the seat more comfortable. I love the tree/bar setup too. Maybe I can make them work on the X1 sometime. I wonder about tank clearance tho. I noticed the individual pushrod covers are now 1 shared cover per cylinder. I'll miss the tube frames but this bike is definitely a step in the right direction for the lineup yet to come. |

Are the dealers gouging or are they keeping it around the MSRP? |

X1G: HD has a policy that it can't be sold until another arrives? That sounds highly unlikely to me. Sounds like something a dealer would do. |

Mancuso said they'd sell it for 10k OTD. Maybe because I bought my X1 from them 2 weeks ago...and my dad is director of the local HOG chapter. Who knows? Maybe they won't be so nice when my dad steps down at the end of the year. MSRP is unheard of there. I had to go to El Paso to get my HOG cuz they wanted 22k from me. I got it for 17k instead. |

Aaron: That's just what the salesman told me. We all know about the word of a salesman tho, don't we. They said they can sell it but it can't leave the floor. I wouldn't put anything past the mother company, but it is highly likely the salesman was F.O.S. |

"Even if I bought it, I couldn't take it home until they got another. It's some rule H-D has. There must be one on the floor at all times." That's probably going to piss off Erik as well since his arrived at a local dealership last Friday. anonyirregular |

good job on the tensioner, gates's design manual stated that the idler, if required, should not be smaller than the smaller [drive] sprocket, glad it was a quick fix. |

Actually....that's not ENTIRELY untrue. Dealers, as a covenent of the dealer contract, are required to have certain models on the showroom AND certain models (not necessarily the same ones) available for demos. For many dealers (as in the case of the V-Rods) this is an academic problem since, frequently, the first of a new model is bought at a premium price by a rubbie who has no intention of riding or taking delivery....ergo, it sits and sells other bikes. I read that that idler design took 40 pages of calculations. I guess they had to add a few more pages...... |

It looks like California will get Firebolts soon. This message was on SacBORG yesterday... April 12, 2002 To: All California Buell Twin Dealers Subject: Buell Firebolt Dear California Buell Twin Dealer: We are pleased to announce that we will soon be shipping Firebolts to your dealership. Production and shipments will start early in the week of 4/15/02. At this time we are still awaiting final approval from the State of California. Therefore your initial unit(s) will not be invoiced, as they will be Company Owned Vehicles. This also means they are not yet saleable and thus should not yet be ridden on the street. We expect to have the last details for California State approval worked out shortly. We will advise you as soon as that occurs. In the meantime we wanted you to at least have vehicles to show on the floor during the upcoming promotion. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Sincerely, Johnny Hutchison Director, Sales Support Operations

So it looks like the Firebolt holdup was for California emissions all along. That, and the new and improved belt tensioner. It is good to see the XB9R's are now on there way to everywhere, and should be in dealers by the April 27th Slay the Dragon event. I'll have to see if I can win one. Jim X-2.5

Detroit HD BUELL has a Blue xb9r in. The only one they have right now. The belt tenshioner bracket and pully looks very good. Looks like it was made by hand on a lathe and mill. Very trick. Also the Gauges look more silver than white. I saw the firebolt at the bikeshow in cleveland and it had white gauges. |

Gauges....on the pre-production model the speed was in 20 mph increments 0,20,40,60....160 etc. but on the production model it is in 10mph 10,20,30,40.....160.... |

First dynojet run: 76 peak horsepower, 60 pound-feet peak torque. The Firebolt had only a few hundred miles on it for the run, so one with very well seated rings should do better. The bike feels faster than the numbers. A good S1W dynoed at about 84hp on the same dyno. |

Hey Anonymous! Why be so shy? We're all family here! Probably feels faster because it is about 55-60 lbs lighter than a X1 and the controls and bars are set so much better. Oh, if I had only waited 2 more weeks! |

Hal's has their first blue XB uncrated and on display in their lobby, surrounded by a chain lobby gate. "Look but don't touch or the owner who's name just happens to be on the gas tank might not be pleased". |

Got it. I've been watching the store cam at Hal's waiting for it to scan across the XB9R, but I think it may be too big to post here, but here goes a try. (Got no photo editor here at work.) If this doesn't work, then one of you can try to capture a store image of the XB on display here. "The file you attempted to upload is larger than the maximum size for a file as specified by the board administrator. File size is limited to 52 kilobytes. Your file was 92 kilobytes." Didn't think so, but I tried anyway. |
