The sending unit for the temp meter replaced the drain plug for the sump. I now have no magnetic thingy to catch the metal particles that float on by. So, my questions are... Is the drain bolt an active player in the filtration system? If yes, could I replace it with something like this? A high power magnet on the oil filter.

did you safety wire the new drain plug/temp sensor? perhaps mounting the sensor to the cylinder head might give more usefull information, and not cause a potentially catastrophic release of important fluids? |

Stoobr2 - Thanks, I've seen that one before. But, can I use any high power magnet? Will it affect any of the bikes electricals? Brucelee - I am using a Daytona oil temp gauge. I had one on my '91 GSXR750 back in the day and it never gave me any problems. Fullpower - It's torqued to the Buell specifications. The sending unit didn't exactly fit, it was available with different adapters for metric bikes. I had to machine the drain bolt to make an adapter for the sending unit. |

So what is the operation temp on the oil that is being shown on the gauge? |

Hkwan - After about 20 minutes it's about 135-150° but remember this is in the sump, after the oil cooler. The hottest it's I've seen was about 170°. |
