Replaced my rear tire today. Stupid road debris. Took the loose wheel to Chaparral Motorsports to get the tire installed. (They had the best price for the Bridgestone Battleax tires.) When I went in to pick it up the tech said "the Buells are right hand drive, right?" I said "yes." He said "I thought so. Did you know the tire we took off was installed backwards?"
That was Quaid H/D Buell's fault after charging me $180 for a Dunlop 208 and then charging me another $60 to mount it on the loose wheel.
Ijust put about 4K miles on a tire that was mounted backwards. Explains the sketchy braking in wet weather, I guess. It also explains why I won't be going back to them.

what i noticed is that is that the tread pattern on the front is reverse of what is on the back.

the tread pattern is reversed for proper water shed so you can break and turn in the rain.

Is that what they call a "Freudian slip"?

I Know from now on when I get a tire back from the shop I'm gonna look at the arrows on the sidewall and make sure they are going the right way.

I heard it this way...

The front tire is narrow enough that water evacuation isn't much of an issue. Because of this, the front tire tread is designed more towards braking performance and stability instead. The rear is actually designed the "normal" way for reasons of acceleration performance and stability as opposed to water evacuation as well, it's just that the force generated is in the same direction as a car tire... That happens to dictate a directional tread pattern like you see on a car. The difference being that with a car, the more important factor is water evacuation. If it wasn't, manufacturers would do the same thing with car tires as they do with bike tires. They would make the directional pattern face the other direction for the front tires.

I mark the direction of rotation on masking tape attachted to the pulley, rear brake rotor, and front brake rotor when I drop them off.
