Hi guys I'm new to the forum and still dont own a Buell I have tried the 9s and the 12s but the last one had a injection problem at low rpm and I couldn't get the best out of it. Both rides where on demo rides so it was impossible to push the bikes like I wanted to but the 9s felt more powerfull cause of the 12 problem. To help you a bit I use to own rice rockets( YZF and GSXR 750's) took a race school and I am now riding a motocross on the track. I kind of know what i'm doing on a bike and thats why I love Buell I was going to trade my gszr for a xi in 2000 but finance didn't work. Thx for your help guys. | ||

the 12 has a lot more torque that you can feel. the 9 has a much smoother power delivery. they are both extremely fun machines. in the twisties, if you arent all that experienced, you might find the 9 is alot more managable. if your into wheelies, they both do'em with ease. i have a 12s and have ridden many 9's. hopefully i will be getting a 9 soon as well. you wont be dissapointed no matter which bike you choose. i myself am kind of partial to the 12's though. | ||

I own a 9S. I test rode a XB9SX an a XB12S this week and I still like the 9S better. YMMV | ||

the 12 will be faster (not like your used too) but the 9 is more fun. both turn heads equally well. | ||

i have a 12. the 9 is smoother and it is entirely probably that the "injection problem" you describe at low end on the 12 is actually normal behavior. when i test rode both the 9 and the 12 at the same time, i actually thought the 12 was miss-firing on one cylinder. the 12 runs fairly rough at low rpm and requires a lot of clutch feathering. open it up, however, and you will be glad for the power. | ||

If you do a lot of in town, in traffic riding I'd say go with the 9. It is smoother & is very pleasant at low rpm. If you ride more on the open road, I think you'd like the 12. My 12 doesn't really smooth out till I get up to about 2800 rpm. At over 3K it's silky smooth. I really do like the 9. I had gone searching for a 9R before I found my 12Scg. After sitting on it I was sold. Had there been a 9SL, I might had bought one of those instead. I have no complaints about my 12 however. Low rpm town riding sucks but I spend over 75% of my time on open backroads so I'm stoked. Either way you can't lose. | ||

Any lower than that and you are lugging the engine on either bike. I've watched two lite people on a nine and the pilot was complaining about the lack of power. I weigh 220 and recently bought a helmet for my GF. I have no issues with the power. The extra torque lower in the rev range will help a LOT when riding two up. | ||

I don't know if it's an issue in Canada, but did you get insurance quotes between the 9s and the 12s? That might also help you decide. I know that a lot of insurance companies, in the States, quote unrealistic prices for the 12s. It might be worth checking. | ||

I agree man, get the twelve, I weight about 170 and frequently had my GF(130 lbs) on the back of my 9, ever since I went to the 12 it has been much more pleasant to ride fully loaded | ||

I'd describe my 9 as 'snappier' when compared to the 12. The 12 delivers a more velvety woosh of POWER. I dunno. I must give you this token though. Ride them both before you decide. S and R as well. | ||

I love my 9S (basically stock). I have ridden with a couple 12's, some with race kits, I have never felt underpowered even at WFO. | ||

For two up riding the 12 would be better, For solo riding I havn't found a preference. I own a 12S and have ridden a 9R & 9S and they were just as much fun as my 12. Where I ride there are many twisties and top speed does you no good there so both bikes were pretty equal. Though there is less down shifting on the 12 in the twisties. | ||

On the street I prefer the 12 for two reasons: more fun playing with the extra torque and lower rpm at highway speeds. I sit right at 4,000 at 80 mph and the exhaust note(D&D pipe) doesn't ring in my ears. One the track or backroads the 9 has a broader rpm range to work with. I also find power delivery to be smoother. All things considered I usually recommend the 12. Oh yeah...definitely find another 12 to demo. The problems you described are not normal for an XB12 that is running right. | ||

i like the 12 better, runs strong, pretty smooth, only feels underpowered when i try to keep up with the wife on her Ducati. when she pulls out to pass, it takes me a while to catch up. i have more top speed, but her little M620 monster will spank my xb12 in a top gear roll on. guess my XB needs more cc's?? |
