my owners manual says 1050-1150 rpms which is what my bike idles at but when i start it up after it has been sitting for awhile it seems like it wants to shut off and sometimes does. Is this normal.

You have to get the engine up to running temp. (Usually 10 minutes of riding) and then set the idle to 1050-1150. I have mine at about 1050. When I start it up cold it idles at about 900-1000.

From what it sounds like your idle may be way off.
