I need to pick some of your brains!!!! I just made an Exhaust for my bike an 04 XB9R This exhaust flows a lot better than anything on the market and I am having a few problems. The bike is running lean. I am not having a lot of drive-ability problems other than it is not pulling as hard as is should be. Which in turn it needs more fuel. I put 35 miles on it the other day and I dont even have black soot in the tailpipe. I have checked the plugs and they are spotless so its not dangerously lean but its border line. The exhaust that is on it right now is one that it will scavenge exhaust so it really has zero to negative back pressure. My Problem is I need a way to up the fuel dosage either by a programmable ECM, raising the fuel pressure, bigger injectors etc. Any help information about this matter would be greatly appreciated. I just purchased the bike two moths ago and I am out of the loop as far as the aftermarket support on these bikes go. I looked into the power commander and it looks like they dont offer it anymore. Parts I have installed: Buell Race ECM K&N filter My Custom pipe (just muffler) If this exhaust makes the power gains that it should I will let you all know and try to get it into production. I have free dyno time and all I need is a user friendly ECM or some quick cheats to add more fuel for the time being. |

Did you have the TPS reset? If not, I would do that before you do any trouble shooting it is necessary when you install the race kit and the only difference between the race kit and what you did is the muffler |

Ya I had the TPS reset at Harley on Saturday. |

I always thought that you need some backpressure on your exhaust. Otherwise you lose power. |

That is not always the case. On a stock motor and added a totally open exhaust you will lose power. That is why you have to purchase a ECM and a filter along with removing the intake snorkel to allow more fuel/air into the engine because the exhaust is leaving quicker. And it is proving it here the bike is fast it has snappy throttle response and a killer exhaust tone but it is not pulling as hard as is should because it is lean. For Example: Flowmaster mufflers scavenge at high exhaust flow rates and produces the most power compared to many other exhaust companies. |

What about the Power Commander? |

I thought the power commander was discontinued for the buells. Does the old one work with the new bikes? |

Unfortunately you are correct I missed that it is a 99-02 part American Sportbike does sell the following which might be worth talking to AL about 9301 - Dobeck Techlusion ’’Electronic Jet Kit’’ 99-05 Dobeck Techlusion "Electronic Jet Kit" for all Fuel injected Buells (tuber or XB). Attaches directly to the signal wires of the fuel injectors and only modifies the duration of the fuel signal. Includes a connection to the O2 sensor so it works well with the closed loop Buell FI system. Needs no computer for adjustments. Has 4 adjustment pots for tuning the analog of the Idle/cruise Mix, Accelerator Pump, Top End, and the RPM point at which the system transitions from mid to high. |

Axel, I've got the TFI on my 12R. I"ve got the race filter and just put on one of Odies 'Special OPS pipes. The main difference I saw after putting the tfi on was it ran a lot smoother. It's adjustable with 4 pots and I'd recommend them... Kevin |

Axel, Take it from me, dude. I've been down this road. You need backpressure or the thing only sings at high revs. The lack of power is the lack of midrange because you've got no backpressure. I've made several different pipes for my 9R, and once I added some restriction it immediately ran better through the mid- and low range. I made a previous set of pipes with switchable inserts, and found (through the seat of my pants) that restricting each dual pipe to the same diameter as the head pipes works best for me. I also have a custom intake, but with the stock ECM. It runs fine after letting it adjust itself to the changes. (Message edited by bigsherm9r on May 31, 2005) |

Axelcuda, Search the archives for TFI, techlusion and dobeck. There is a wealth of information there for you. There are quite a few guys here with the TFI but since we've gone over it so many times I think some have grown tires of repeating it. I'd love to help you though. Search the archives and ask away. I'll answer the best I can. |

Axel, as an experiment, replace the K&N filter with the stock filter, then take the bike for a ride to reset the AFV by riding it steady between 3500-4000rpm for a few miles. Then see how the bike runs. |

I just ordered the TFI kit. I talked to george there and he thinks that his kit will work good along with the race ECM but I will have to turn off the cruise function on the TFI. We will see I will let you know. Thanks for everyones help. |

Turn off the cruise function? How do we do that? |

Not sure how you do that yet seeing how i dont have it. I was talking to George there and he said since I am not having any drive - ability problems with the race ECM compared to the stock ECM where the bike wouldn't rev passed 4000 RPM. He said that I can turn off the cruise function. I believe this function tries to adjust fuel delivery at cruising speeds according to the O2 sensor. That is what I got out of it. (It was like a 5 minute conversation) Unless I grossly misunderstood him. I second day aired the shipment so Thursday night I will let you know. |

nice exhaust tube there bigsherm. looks like you need to safety wire those two little drain plugs though. dont want to run over your own oil drain plug. ever. |
