Broke the belt on my XB12R two weeks ago with only 12K on the bike. This happened on the Interstate at about 80 mph. The bike spat the belt out cleanly, no problem here. Coasted as far as I could and pushed the bike for about half a mile to a safe spot from where I called for help. Went back the next day and found the belt on the side of the road. It seemed to have pulled apart in one spot. (Thank goodness I went back because the dealer wanted the broken belt.) Took the bike to the dealer and after a week they told me they had to order the belt, so I have to wait another week. Pathetic I say! Imagine if this happened hundreds of miles from home. If all Harley/Buell dealers are like this I'll be stranded for a few weeks! Time for a different bike me thinks... |

I had mine replaced under warranty at 13,400. I was doing some work on the bike and noticed most of the teeth were undermined (cracks). I had it done proactively since I was on my way to the track. BTW, something most HD dealers won't tell you is that they can check very quickly online to see what dealers in the area have a part in stock. There you go, the secret is out That is how I got my belt replaced the next day at a local dealer. xbolt12 |

xbolt, are you saying the dealer replaced under warranty because it showed "cracks"? Did you go to them and show them, or did they find it? Just curious, would like to know what and how it was determined to be warranty issue, thanks, Greg |

ABC's of Buell Part Acquisition: a. Call Daves 1-866-757-1651 b. Order parts c. Receive Parts. d. (optional) If you don't have the parts book and shop manual, this might be a good time to order them. Any questions? |

"Lost" being a synonym in this case for "not ordered and not followed up on" no doubt. I have a lot of grace for dealers... I firmly believe far more dealers are abused by customers then customers abused by dealers... I've seen it first hand. That being said, after a stunt like this, if that dealer still wanted my business at this point, somebody would be emailing me apologies and fedex tracking numbers, or handing me the keys to a loaner bike. |

At least 20K. I must say that I enjoy this bike more than anything I have owned in the past, just frustrated about the level of service I am getting. |

Tatsu, What I meant was that any HD dealership (parts dept) has the ability to quickly check other dealers stock. The problem is that nobody would ever tell me this until a great guy in a Chula Vista dealers parts department just did it without me asking. Because he did, I was able to tell that SD HD had a belt in stock in their downtown location (something SD HD Kearny Mesa couldn't/didn't bother to tell me). So I brought the bike down to SD HD (downtown SD) and showed the belt to the tech and service manager. They agreed it was going to fail soon, so they called Buell and made a case for me and Buell agreed. I have to thank SD HD service department (Kettner street) for that. It could have gone differently. My point was that it would be dangerous and more expensive to simply wait until the belt snapped. They agreed. That meant I got the belt replaced overnight and got to go to my first trackday the next day. xbolt12 |

As for the belt, every tooth had a crack all the way across the base and at least several cracks visibly ran more than half way under the tooth. xbolt12 |
