"I just don't get what the big issue is with this thread."

/ #5 voice on - You're Mother was a snowblower...

It's not true, but if you're a robot it may be an insult. The insult part isn't too hard to take but the fact that there may be other robots standing around that may now think that your mother was a snowblower IS the problem. Defend your Mother Jonathan... That's all : ).

Someone comes on here and tells "The Board" and any people lurking that Buell's suck and state a bunch of inaccurate info could potentially harm future Buell sales. If the accusations were true, I would accept the fact and discuss the issue. Seems how the statements were indeed not true and were just being made by someone who was mad because they have issues with their transmission I'll defend the product. I'm not saying that no-one else has ever had issue with their trans (as a matter of fact, my trans output shaft seal failed). It's NO reason to declare that Buell's are any less than they are though.

Why the pissing match here? If you dislike Buells, why do you have one and/or hang on a Buell site? You know the people here like Buell, so why come and start bad mouthing the bike? No, my Buell is not a R1. If I wanted an R1 I would have gotten one. I got my Buell knowing what it was and what it was not. SO WHAT if someone's 600 can beat me. I bet their dad can beat up my dad as well. SO WHAT. I love my bike. I hope you love yours. If you don't, find one you do and get it, but please don't tell me that mine bike is inferior. Are others' lives so trouble free that this argument is such a big deal? I really envy you if this is so.

I figure I'll put this in red to make it more noticable. This is the best statement I've seen.

Norris, Spike.

Great job on posting some hard facts on the XB cornering speed. I get passed but liter bikes and new 600's on the straights and by the time we get to the corner I almost run into them. although my bike is a bit modified still the corner speed is truly amazing. Thats where I make almost all my time on the racetrack!

Pup I will give it to you, you have started a very bad but good thread if that means anything. Alot of interesting facts are being posted..
My buddies tranny went south on him because he was power shifting it.

Yeah Norris, I love the S, except for aggressive curve riding. The riding position is just not set up for that, and changing lines is tough for me to do smoothly. I tried Sammigs R and it was great, even set up for his weight. He did a super job getting the suspension dialed in.

I wish the Crossroads triple clamp set up was cheaper, I'd just switch back and forth depending on the type of riding I'm doing. It may be a "must have" after my track day next month.

Look at the specs here, I'd say that old Harley
does pretty damn good. If they had specs on a 1/8
mile the Buell would really kick butt.
Look at the 60 to 80 specs.
Wish they showed 0 to 60, I bet the Buell
would come out on top.

My last bike was a 01 ZX9R

Just out of curiosity, wasnt that the Kawi's cheep version of the ZX9, stadard forks, heavier, and in general made as an inexpesive sportbike withOUT all the cooler stuff avaliable on the older bikes, but made less expensive and one of the few sportbikes that actually went down in price that year???
Just wondering

No, the ZX9R is the bike that came out the same time as the R1 (1998) and smoked everything else out there. They were the first two open classers to come in a hair over 400lbs dry, with the R1 having more power and less weight (under 400 dry?, can't remember).
By 2001 the 9R was improved further, but it kept a street focus, rather than the R1, and GSXR that were more track oriented. It is by no means a second rate bike.

Fogal,

There is so much that you are saying that is wrong I could start anywhere, but here's one. You say "RR Honda brakes much better" I say "BS". If you ever watched the Buells vs Hondas in Formula Extreme last year, you would have seen Buells with STOCK brakes outbraking the Hondas. And, BTW, the Hondas had Brembo radial calipers on them because the stock Honda brakes weren't good enough. So, stock Buell brakes better than not just stock Honda brakes, but better than the Brembo race caliuperts (which are about $1000. And, the bikes don't wobble unless you have them screwed up somehow. Hell, ask the racers or read the real magazines. The Hondas have more power, but our bikes are lower cost to run, and handle and stop better. And have better fit and finish. You makes your choice, but I refuse to let people dis us where we don't deserve it.

shocks also.

Annony why has Richard Conrath said he'd rather have had the radial brakes on the Kosco Buell last year over the stock breaks???He said they had huge problems and were swapping out the rotors just about every race.

M1,i never said Buells suck,I guess reading comprehension is not one of your strong points. What did I say that was inaccurate,I believe the much of the info you stated was wrong.I doubt anything I say on here will affect future sales, and if it does, that says something about Buell Motorcycles.Yes I am a little mad about my tranny,I believe that a bike shouldn't have 2 transmission problems in 24,000 miles,Badweb is a small portion of the Buell owners,so I wonder how wide spread tranny problems are?

Court,Anony I have the Cycleworld article right here and it states"Both forks are carried by triple-clamps with 3mm less offset, giving a little more than a tenth of an inch more trail than stock"
Funny someone who is in the know wouldn't know what an article about Buell race bikes say.As I have said before, tell me what I have said is wrong and show me and I will say I am wrong, will you do the same?As I have seen,I would say the answer to that is no.

Pup all depending on where they race the setup can change.Meaning the triple clamps can be changed for that track setup. But at the same time so will Honda,Yamaha or who ever for the best setup. The magazine could have seen it that way that day but it could be different the next week.

Ok pup:
I don't have an XB I have a tuber and MY Tranny
comes out on the side.
I know that the XB's split cases
for tranny service.
I don't have a manual for an XB YET, I don't have the bike either.

Did you read the hall of motors like I said?
the design is HOW OLD?

which of Mr Canfield's question have YOU answered?

Less see
1. 0 motors no posts some crap about Money,&
Out dated 50 year old design

2. some stuff from a cycle mag, WHAT WAS THE WHEEL BASE?

3. you have had the disssing remarks you have made listed for you, you have denied or failed to acknoledge them

4.Others have been posting answers for you
as I read the thread.

As far as the real world lets see

I raced MX for a couple of years out of highschool, and did alot of my own chassis work
and over hauled My engine, Did I mention that MY bike was a CZ? no factory any thing

I built a good handling play bike from a Honda 100, complete with a Yoshimura cam and crank work
I did my own head work, I could stay with 175 to 250 cc bikes on a flat track I personaly hosed an Elsinore 250, BECAUSE MY BIKE COULD TURN
and corner faster I would catch him going in and dust him comming out and he could not gain any ground on me

What the others are telling you is correct, unless you are drag racing or on a LONG track
the bikes that corner best have an edge.
this is true Road or dirt.

Racing my x1? why its a street bike?
I take My vacations on it and enjoy it
absolutly nothing in MY World turns as well as MY X1, I have the scars to prove that.
Is it perfect NO!, I have altered it to suit MY tastes and I am still fine tuning it It will never see a race track. I second an earlier suggestion that IF you are un happy with the purchase that you have made SELL IT

I have ridden the xb bikes 9s,9r,12r as well
Excellent in every way.

My sense sir is that YOU are a bench racer

Don't bother answering Me for I don't care.
In Your case natural selection will likely take care of this issue. I look to see you in the Darwin awards.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but what thepup is referring to is commonplace
on race bikes. It’s just a way to fine tune the caster, according to
rider preference. You see it a lot on RC51s. Your talking about less than 1/8 inch.
There is a long list of mods that are made just for rider preference.
You can also end up with an ill handling bike with this adjustment.

This kind of adjustment would just get me in trouble, I'll leave that extreme tuning to the pros.

Pup, that may just be in reference to Hals HD's bikes. Not *ALL* Buell race bikes in general. Like Norris said, it may just be the way Mike Cicatto<sp?> likes it. But I'll ask Dan Bilanski(one of the Hal's XB racers) on wednesday at Blackhawk if it's common to all the XB race bikes, and why.

Steve its all how they want it setup.Heck one of Cicottos bike has ohlins forks the other showa depends on where they are at.Same goes for triple clamps.Depends on the track and what they need that given day.

Here's the problem guys, bench or spec sheet racers do not understand what really goes into building a real world race bike. Here is a hint, it's more than stickers and plastic.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.....some men you just caint reach.

M1,you are in denial, where have I been proven wrong.Lets see I said Buell in FX were allowed unlimited engine modifications, this is true
You said the hondas were destroked and bored out, wrong they have to run the stock stroke
I said Buells are getting beat by the 600's in FX,is this not true? I can go on and on,please give me an example of a false statement of mine.M1,I believe you need to walk away with your head down. Please show me something I have been wrong about,I have given you examples where you were wrong.

Oldog, here you go making stuff up,I never said it was outdated,I said it was a 50 yr old design. You say there is a list of disses that I posted, they were facts not disses. Please have a XB before you put your 2 cents in.You tried to represent your knowledge of a Buell and was wrong about splitting the cases for tranny work. The article I have been refering to was specifically about the Buell FX bike,I pretty sure it was pretty accurate. So please get back up on the porch.ANother thing Oldog,I am not a bench racer, could care less about racing on the street,I have thought about going to racing school so for someone who doesn't know a thing about me you sure act like you do.

No one says an XB will smoke a litre bike... (Except on twisty roads , and it WILL).

Wow, there's some facts for you.:P

Look at the 60 to 80 specs.
Wish they showed 0 to 60, I bet the Buell
would come out on top.

Oh lord do we have to go thru that again?

For christs sake, enjoy your damn bike..whatever brand it is & just ride the frickin thing. It comes down to rider ability & thats it for the most part.
