How and where and why do people wrap their header pipes? I've seen them wrapped in tape, usually black. I like the way it looks. What are the reasons for doing this? Where do you get it? Thanks......sinatra

Go to Summit.com. Beware: Wrapping your pipes is a serious pain in the . Good news: When you're done, It looks really cool.
PS: Don't forget to buy the silicone sealant.

Sinatra, I have been wanting to do the same thing, but in silver.
I heard that it can corrode your pipes?? Is this true? Also, does anyone have instructions on how to do it?
Thanks!

Guys used to do it on race bikes to keep the exhaust gases hotter, which allows more efficient flow.

Since our pipes are stainless steel the heat retention is such that header wrap dosen't do much if anything to increase gas flow. It makes a huge difference on non-stainless exhaust components. For our application header wrap is good for "cool" looks and maybe reducing radiant heat coming off the pipes and cooking your leg.

I just finished wrapping my headers last night. I used 50 feet of 1 inch black tape from Summit, located here. Was just the right length and size. I got the DEI stainless tie wraps in hopes of using them to hold the wrap at the ends. Don't bother, the tie wraps would not get tight and stay. I cut them off and used hose clamps. Worked much better.

Looks good. I have not coated them yet that will be tonight. I will snap some photos and post here.

To wrap I removed the rear bodywork, shock, and fan so I could get to the rear header and the chin fairing for the collector.

My fan runs a lot and I can feel the heat on my leg when it is hot outside. So I am trying every little thing to keep her cool. Plus if I can manage to ruin the header I will just have to by the TI Force header ; )
