the buell tech i brought my bike to for service this week has a race ecm off a totaled 12s. he says that the 9 and 12 ecm's are no different and the 12 ecm will work fine on my 9. the only thing that worries me is that they have different part numbers which leads me to believe they are different. does anyone know about this and are the computers interchangeable? |

Use a 9ecm on a 9 & a 12ecm on a 12. They are mapped different. That's why they have different part numbers so that they arn't confused. If you get a race ecm for your 9, make sure it's for 03-04 models. The 05 9R & SX have a different ecm & race ecm. I'm not sure exactly why it's different but I'd bet it's due to the newer one piece throttle body. (Message edited by metalstorm on May 07, 2005) |

can't he load a "9" map into the ECM? then dyno it to be sure? No, the ECMs are not flash programable. A 12 ECM WILL work on a 9, however, you will be limited to the lower revlimit of the 12. I can not claim to know the run ability of said change either as I know of no one who has done the change on a 9 since no one wants to deal with the lower rev limit of the 12 when running a 9. |
