Something I've noticed that bugs the poop outa me. This just started happening 2 days ago. Start up the bike. Idling is erratic. Ride to the store and on the way there notice that idling is now ok, right where it should be. I get to the store, turn off bike and when I turn her on the idling is all over the place again to the point where she sometimes dies out on me. Mind you I have just finished breaking her in. I changed the exhaust, ecm, air filter at mileage 309. From that point till about 600 miles idling was good after 600 or so miles idling is tripping out. Anybody got any ideas? I mean for $11K this thing should purr like a kitten. |

Changed ecm means you got the tps reset too right? |

Gotta reset the TPS with a race kit. Head over to a dealer with a Digital Tech and ask to have a TPS Reset. Once done, you may need to adjust the hot idle to your preference once done, but the erratic idle should go away. |

Well guys I assumed that the Buell tech readjusted the tps since he installed my Jardine. But maybe he didn't? I called the dealer and the service manager said that I should ride her at 60-65 mph for about 6 miles and the computer should correct itself. What do you guys think? He said that if that didn't work to come on in and they would reset the tps manually. I just hope this doesn't turn into my first quibble over warranty issues. |

The TPS should have been reset after the airbox mod, filter & pipe install, and ECM replacement. The ECM just doesn't reset itself. The race ECM relies on pre-programmed maps for idle, WOT, and moderate acceleration, while the O2 sensor is only used when cruising at highway speeds. If the maps do not correspond to the data from the TPS, then you have runability issues. For now, do what the dealer says, then if that doesn't work, take it back and ask for the TPS reset. If you do have to go back to the dealer, try and be patient. The whole thing may be a misunderstanding or just something simple that can be resolved with minimal fuss. |

Sometimes the dealers can overlook the obvious. But first and foremost follow his recommendation to reset the ECM. Failing that, the manual TPS reset would be next. My bro. in law pointed out different bikes react differently when the TPS is out of whack. Mine had an annoying stumble around 2000rpm and that was it. Yours could just be a more extreme case. |

No 12's are very picky on where they idle.I've had this problem with mine.First go ride it till its good and warm and I mean warm.Where is your bike idling now???It should be just a smidge above 100rpm's like 1050.If not theres your problem. |

BadS1, My bike, when warm, idles at about 1050 I guess. The tach on these bikes is not exactly the pinnacle of accuracy but I'm guessing that it's about there. The problem really lies in the way the idling behaves even after she is already warm and one re-starts her up. She idles nicely on the way to your destination but once you arrive somewhere, stop the bike, and then restart her, the idling goes crazy. This wasn't happening before even after the pipe had been changed. That's why I'm concerned. Something changed within her within the last 36 hours or so. |
