I don't know how many of you know that i recently lost my blast due to a drunk driver but now (since sat.) i have a nice brand new 2004 XB12S. i'm 16 so shortly i expect to hear from dyna rider. I am breaking it in properly but i love riding this bike. The bike is black (wouldn't have it any other way) and is a left over. I picked it up with 150 miles on it (people test rode her) for $8000. he wanted to get rid of it so bad that he was willing to lose money on it. Never titled and still on MSO with 2 year warranty and all. This bike has to have a ton of power. i can feel the pull it has even when i'm breaking it in. it feels so stable. i loved my blast but i'm sure that this bike is SO much better. The blast had a sentimental value. I have already experienced my first problem with my XB though.I was sitting at a red light and pushed the horn button, then the bike died and the fan came on.The lights went out and the needle on the tach stayed at 1000 with key turned to on.i pushed the bike over to the side of the road and automatically checked the fuses. sure enough it blew the key/ignition fuse. i used the spare 15 and went on. i didn't even hear the horn. it was like i hit the kill switch. anyone know whats going on since its not suppose to do that? i don't want to take it in to the dealer under the warranty because i don't feel like being without a motorcycle for a while.

yeah dude,i know whats wrong.the same thing happened to me and pretty much every one else here.its a factory defect(SHORT IN THE HORN WIRE).don't worry about being without the bike for a while,it only took the dealer about 5 minutes to fix mine.they should already know about the hornwire problem and should know exactly how to fix it(PROBABLY HAVE HAD I FEW BIKES COME IN FOR THAT ALREADY). just call ahead and let them know your commin, they should be able to fix it while you wait.till then, just keep alot of extra fuses in your toolkit, and try not to press the horn.

WOW, I wish I could of had a bike like an XB12S when I was 16. Just be careful with all that power. Even at 30 with a few years street experience and a childhood of dirt bike riding I still scare myself with the power of my XB9R sometimes. Try not to show off to much for the young tail.

Weird. I started a thread a few days ago about something similar. When I chirp the horn a few times the engine stutters. Didn't hear anything about a short in the horn wire "known problem".

thanks for the reply(s) (especially the end of yours scitz) i honestly have a pretty level head. not trying to sound nieve (sp?) but i don't really do stupid stuff on motorcycle. i'm the kind of guy that isn't really concerned about what others think therefore i don't try to show off. as soon as i break the bike in i will take it down there. i don't have a convenient way to haul it down to the dealer. its only a 30 mile trip but its all interstate and i want to stay under 55. thanks again for the info.

Agreed Tom, I don't think it is a known problem. Just seems to be something that happens rarely. Least ways mines ok.

With my horn trouble, I disconnected the ground lead from the horn. From there, I could hit the button however I liked, no problems. So it couldn't be a short in the wiring to the horn. The power has a 7.5a fuse, and it's not blowing. The problem seems to only happen when I "chirp" the horn a couple of times, I put my scope on +12vdc and saw big spikes, either the on/off is throwing noise back into +12vdc or the voltage regulator is having a tough time with the load...

my dealer knew what was wrong as soon as i told them the symtoms and said it was a known defect.

I had the horn problem too. I guess it is a recall , but I just fixed myself. The power wire from the horn will rub itself against a bolt and ground out , I just wrapped it in rubber tape to insulate it and haven't had a problem since.
