I'm running an 04 XB12S with a newly fitted Jardine, but have not taken the snorkel out or changed the air filter yet. I am intending on getting it dyno'd to see if its running lean before any further changes. Then I will hopefully change the above and add either a race ecm or TFI. The question is .... people say if it pops, bangs or farts on closing the throttle at high rpm , it does this because it runs lean. Can somebody explain why this is true please? I would have thought it was excess fuel igniting , and therefore mean its running rich. Can somebody in the know explain? Thanks J |

There is alot of speculation without alot of AFV charts floating about the boards exclaiming the XB's are running lean. If you are really worried, pay the money to a dyno shop to have a run made with an A/F monitor to check and see where the bike is actually running lean. Tell them you want some roll on and highspeed roll offs as well just to check. |

I think what they mean is than because the exhaust is hotter, any unburned fuel is more likely to ignite? I believe more fuel, and less vacuum as a means of cooling the exhaust is why some of the MotoGP bikes have circuits to keep the throttles slightly open during deceleration-or so I've read. |
