Right, I agree, that faith stuff only comes into play concerning tire grip, and even then mostly just when leaned hard over at triple digit speeds. : ]

I guess in answer to the put up or shut up, our would be salesman chose the latter. Prudent choice methinks.

Steve,
You leave your stock horn on the racebike too? I've found that most helpful as well, not sure I follow your reasoning, but for me it proves its worth when I am dogging one of those 600cc repli-racers in the turns. Just a couple well timed "beep-beeeeeep"s and the resulting distraction often has the desired effect. LOL. I ain't lying. Hey, it's either that or figure out where I can hid a nitrous bottle on the thing so I can pass them in the straights.

Ya got me there. Nuttin like faith at the limits of traction. Even an atheist has to have blind faith in adhesion!

you stoled this idea from Aussi didn't ya.

Those fast pills come in grape???

I think they reduce tire changes.
You could save on gas and oil,

You know since the motors going to be locked up.

I too, wasn’t going to get involved in this thread. But I hate to tell y’all, you’re wasting your time. You’re concentrating on the wrong end of the motor. It’s where all that stuff comes out, not where it goes in, that’s important.

Most of y’all are familiar with my qualifications, having been a busy fisherman for all these years. And I am a keen observer of what’s happening around me. I’m sure a lot of you have seen what happens when a fish gets spooked… they haul tail, and not through the flimsy air, but through water. (Ever try to drive a bike across the bottom of your swimming pool? You know what I’m talking about.) And I just told you the secret to their speed: hauling tail. They don’t gulp their way through the water, they flap their damned tails.

So I been studying their tail design for all these years, and they’re all pretty much the same. Similar shape, similar degree of flexibility, etc. And then, I started thinking about applying this design to motorcycles.

Well, we’re quite a ways down that road, now. We have our prototype product, and we’ve tested it. Not on some damned keyboard like those silly fast pills, but in the real world of propulsion. Of course, we’ve had to improvise a little bit. I’m out here on a little island in the Pacific Ocean, and we don’t have any Dyno-Jets at our disposal, but still, we’ve come up with a real-world test facility. We did a run in stock configuration, and then a run with our new product installed. It has been very positive, indeed. We have seen a 17% increase in propulsion.

And we were ready to take the high road, and send one of our products to Paul, down in Oz, along with a case of rut-gut vino, and have him try it out. But it appears that all of Blake’s ranting and raving about sponsors and such is just so much hot air (as usual) and nobody’s paying any attention (also as usual), so I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and see if I can get my product at the top of this forum.

So, in lieu of a dyno chart, which I’m not sophisticated enough to counterfeit with a computer, I’m going to post an un-retouched photo of our testing facilities, in action. This shot was taken the instant our record-breaking run commenced. (Let’s see you CNC one of these, Mr. Norris!)

Can ya run that thing on regular pump paint?

And has the swivel mechanism been toughly tested?

Your design looks very positive. Is that a two or four stroke
add on?

No, no, no, those Fast Pills go in the primary. No friction makes you go faster. You take them by mouth and no friction will make you FAST on your hurried way to the john.

Norris, I have a suggestion for that catch can. Make the barrel of it out of clear PVC. That way you would be able to monitor the goo in the can visually.

Hi,
This is my 1st post on the bad web although,I've been looking in for a while, Great site!
I have some drawings and flow measurements for different shapes of ram pipes but I can't figure out how to attach them to my post (a bit Dopey with pc's) Any way this thread seems to have gone off the subject, and on to Aussi bashing
I don't know if they are all crooks now, but that is why we Brits sent them out there in the 1st place.

ram pipe shapes
try this
They are from a car tuning book by David Vizzard
The buell stack looks similar to No10 the Aussi devil stack similar to No5 not a big improvement I would say.
But there may be some scope for improvement if these flow rates are to be belived.

I was thinking along the same lines as #11.
If you look @ the design of an airfoil.
A larger rim would be better.

i remember reading ccc magazine (car+car conversions) years ago with David Vizzard writing for them,he used to be real hot on modified mini's and wrote several tuning bibles on the subject, used to flow bench test every little mod that could be done to heads, inlets exhausts, valves etc, etc,so had great experience in flow testing and analyzing where gains could be found, fuel was mostly supplied with webber 40 or 45 dcoe side draft carbs which had inlet trumpets very similar to what the xb has albiet in smaller form..... ive been reading this thread with great interest like many others, and ive always wondered about the different shapes of the fast inlet nd the buell rubber one.....jerseyguy has already made an aluminium version to the same spec as the rubber buell one with no difference whatsoever, but the fast kit inlet is of a different shape, but produces better power, although at higher revs......what is the ideal inlet shape? and why are there not more varients out there, from experience with the ecm's and tfi its obvious buell need more credit than is often given for actually knowing what they are doing, but the rubber inlet trumpet seems so inneficient, even in material alone if not shape, that im suprised there are not other designs available

Capt. Pete: You are too late, Harley already make fishtails.
I, too was a big fan of Vizard, mostly down to his analytical and painstaking method. The FAST kit shape seems to be a good compromise between what is ideal and what will fit through the hole in the bottom of the available K&Ns! I could be wrong, but i Think that the fast kit has the same tract length as the standard trumpet, but with much less flare.
When I input the xb9 tract-length through inlet harmonic prediction calculators they always seem to come up too short, So I guess that really long tracts might have a benefit! Now if I could just fit a fishtail to the inlet I'd be in business.

"but the rubber inlet trumpet seems so ineficient, even in material alone if not shape, that im suprised there are not other designs available"

Luckily it only SEEMS to be inefficient... In reality... It is not, and seems to be about the best shape there is (see number ten up there). I think that the only way to improve across the board w/o changing the power curve would be to increase every dimension the same percentage when you add a better flowing exhaust.

11 is more like the race kit inlet mod that you can bolt right into the intake on the tubers. Wasa part of the standard race kit for the X1, M2, S1 (that I put on my S3)

Blake,

Sorry to say it does not come in a lotion but we are considering producing it in a squeeze-bottle form for convenient dispensing into your fuel tank.

This convenient performance-enhancing product is available to Badwebbers and others on other sportbike boards for a limited time for ONLY $12.76 a bottle!

Buy your "Speed Squeeze (TM)" now. Forecast performance improvement similar to "Fast Pills (TM)"

Here's what I'm thinking of - the intake ring in the airbox (X1 pictured but I did same mod to my S3) - that venturi ring looks a lot like venturi configuration #11 in the above list. The ring by itself is less than $15 if my memory serves me.
