I was really hoping I could hold out for anouther 8 months and get out of debt and then save up & buy a Firebolt straight out but it ain't gonna happen. My Sporty left me stranded yet again this month and I've had it with it. Seems every time I fix something on it anouther thing goes haywire within a couple weeks. So... I have 2K stashed. It's not much but I'm going to the city (S.F.) this Saturday to talk with the salesman about financing. I'm hoping I can afford a 9R and the insurance (ouch). There's isn't a snowball's chance in Hell that I can afford a 12R but I'm cool with that. The 9 is plenty fun and can allways be beefed up in the future. I'm trying not to get too excited in case It doesn't pan out but I'm litterly shaking with antisipation. I can't even spell right. Wish me luck guys. Maybe my days of Buell envy are finally over! |

Good luck man. Just make sure you don't fall for some lousy salesman smooth talk with that anxiety. Things I do before I go on a hunt is make sure I know the streetprice of what I'm trading and get a good picture of the price of what I'm getting. Then I decide just how much I'm willing to pay more (read: get screwed over). It's that last number that I keep in mind when I ask the salesman "How much will I have paid you when I drive off your parking lot with that bike?" Another thing I do, I write stuff down. You may not get a clean deal on a bike and salesmen are very good in confusing customers with extras etc. Write it down, great reference for that night when you go over it with one of your friends (and I suggest you do). Last but not least; I will NOT decide that same day. I take the info home to review. If there is a great deal I take an option on it. In short, I will try not to have the salesman lead me to a deal. I am buying, it's my money, I lead. I just realized you never asked for an answer like this but Hey, it's for free! |

Honestly the 12 may cost a lot a bit more than the 9 to insure...I pay 250 a year for liability only which is not bad. The 9 is a good performer after adding a few mods for just under 800 bucks (drummer/pipe, K&N, Race ECM). |

Thanks guys. Ingemar, I allways welcome good advice when it's offered, thanks. I'll be going to Dudley Perkins where I bought my Sporty from. If the same salesman is there I won't worry too much as he was actually pretty cool. If I get a bad vibe or just a plain lousy deal I'll head over to Vallejo to see what they can offer. I'm hoping I can talk one of them into swapping the Dunlops for Scorpions. Not impossible, merely improbbable that they'll do it but I have to at least try. On the bright side, If I get it I won't be bombarding the board with questions since I've allready spent the last two years here asking & studying. I am so READY!!! |

I agree. The 12 is worth the extra money but the prob is that I don't have the extra money. I have to finance and the difference between payments on a 9 & a 12 are the same as the differences between buying gas & food and walking & starving. I've test ridden a 9R & a 9S & a 12S. & frankly the 12S scared me. I don't like doing wheelies. Something that happened a long long time ago has left me shy of them & the 12S does nothing but wheelies! I loved the flickability of the S (9 or 12) but I don't think I could ride it long before the back started aching from "slouching" forward. The R felt wonderfull and was fast enough for normal everyday riding. A race ecm & Drummer will help then there's allways the 1050 bolt on kit that I could get next year when my bills suddenly become about $700 less a month. (with the expection of the Buell, I'll be debt free at last). If I could stand to be bikeless for 8+ more months I could get a 12 but I think I'd die from lack of two wheeled fun long before that happened. so it is a 9. I'm sure the yellow will grow on me but the white wheels will eventually have to go. |

I wouldn't be settling but I get what you're saying. I really do like the 9. I have never been one to need the fastest most powerfull anything. The 12 would be for bragging rights and to look cool to my friends & fellow Buellers. I just want to ride. If I couldn't afford a 9 I'd get a Blast, anything so long as I can ride. The Sporty (rest in Hell) was fun getting it on & feeling your arms being stretched out of the sockets on the backroads but it sucked in town. It just did not like going slow. Had to fan the clutch alot in first & a little in second untill a speed of 30+ mph was achieved for it to run right & not lug. The 9 is alot more versatile. I only weigh 170 lbs. (should be 160) so that helps with the 9's power. If I weighed 200 or more I'd wait for a 12. Anouther bonus to the 9 is that the clutch pull is rediculously light. I love it. It's like closing my hand around nothing but thin air. There's less flywheel action and powering through corners is as easy as 1...2...go. |

I got a 9R a few months ago--had wanted one since I first rode one in 03, when they first came out (with a $15,500 price tag here in Canada). After that two-year wait (and a new house purchase) I finally bought a 2-year-old 9R, brand-new leftover, for less than $10k, well under $11K including financing (I was offered an 04 12R for more than this, and an 05 9R is over $11k also--before financing; BTW all these prices are Canadian). Not everyone has the means to drop cash on a $10k purchase, so I understand where you're coming from. As for the 9 vs 12 difference, well I've ridden both--and I gotta say, I do like the 12, but I also like the 9. It's just a bit different. Like you, I'm not that heavy, and I don't race--the 9 does me just fine. And besides being more expensive to buy, here in BC the cost of insuring the larger bike is significantly higher, too (liability insurance goes strictly by displacement). I've had a few quibbles with the bike, but really the only complaint I have is with the dealer--I got the distinct impression they felt they were "unloading" the bike on me. But every time I ride the thing, I'm grinning... |

I will vote for the 9 too, dollar for dollar you get as well appointed of a bike, as any European manufacturer.... At a good cost savings Geoff you didn't leave a phone # and there are some work related issues we should chat about when you get a chance. 250-837-8877 |

Uggg...Medic! I was shot down in flames today. I went to the dealership and did the paperwork for financing approval, even had Pops with me to co-sign. I was thinking worse case scenario would be 10% interest which I could do. Unfortunetly, even though Pops has perfect golden credit, just having my name there made it so that the best offer they could give me was 21%!!! Now I may be dumb but I ain't stupid. As soon as I was able to pick my jaw up off the floor I said "No Way! Thankyou for your time but no freak'n way". I guess it's back to plan A. Wait till Jan when I'm out of debt and start saving every penny. I might have a Buell by end of next year. That's a very long time to go without a bike. I may snap long before then. Oh well... Sorry for wasting everyones' time. I really thought it was gonna work |

Metalstorm, try some credit unions or banks. My first XB I bought and the dealer helped me set up the financing with a local (to them) bank. The interest was good but when I called them last year about a loan for another used XB the interest rate was even better. They told me had I gone through them directly on the fisrt bike I would have gotten a better rate. |

Try www.capitalone.com. Very low interest rate, extremely easy application process. I guarantee you you will probably end up financing your bike with these guys. That 12 you wanted at 36 months will cost you about $250/mo. Let me know if this works for you... |

I can't do credit card or any kind of loan cause my credit rating is non existant right now. Don't be jealous Gschutte. I didn't get it. I've only been trying for two & half years. I guess I havn't been trying hard enough. I still have a card or two to play in this game of Motorcycle Roulette. I ain't going into details cause I don't want to be the boy who cried wolf yet again. I see in your profile that you want an 9SX. I wish you successs. I don't want anyone to have to wait as long as I have. It starts to get a little obsessive after the first year. |
