My bike ran out of gas today at around 146 miles, the fuel trip meter had 33 miles on it, when I finally made it to a gas station it only took 3 gallons of gas. I thought we had a 3.7 gallon tank? Anyone else notice or find this out like I did. It seems like I am only getting around 48 miles per gallon compared to last year when I was getting 56. Before I could go over 150 and still make it to the gas station, and I would put in 3.2 gallons, whats going on. Would higher gas prices make for a cheaper gas at the pump or are all the stations watering down their gas? |

It's probably just the way you're riding it. It could also be the terrain...i.e. lots of uphill riding. I used to get about 120 to a tank. I had a friend follow me once to find out how far I could go on the reserve. I got about 30 miles. Since I installed my TFI, I get about 100 miles to a tank. I haven't tested the distance on the reserve with the TFI yet, but I made it to a gas station with 12 miles on the reserve. I don't think gas stations are watering gas down. I don't even know if that's possible. Besides, wouldn't you think you'd be able to tell if there was water burning in your engine? |

Ya, they probably aren't but I have heard case of people getting watered down gas in the past. |

XB9SX w/race kit. City I get about 120 miles till the light comes on. Interstate I get about 100 miles at around 80-85 mph with a few 90 mph bursts. |

want a longer tank range buy a tourer....you have a great handling sports bike, its dimensions are very critical for this,so thats the tank size we have....do 100 miles fill up and recount the great ride youv just had...then go do it again...repeat as needed...lol |

i am spending to much time at the gas station thinking of the ride i just had my pump hand gets more work than my clutch hand i love the bike, but i hate pumping gas(maybe i should ride the wife around so she can pump for me) rigga, your bike must be in the garage all the time i am at the gas station everyday now, instead of every other day in my f150 (Message edited by ronlv on April 17, 2005) |

probably the same reasons as many others on here....yes buells are not perfect, tho i suspect there is not the perfect bike out there, but what it does do....it does well, plus they have that little something that a lot of the competition do not have...character in bucket loads |

I have heard that Jap bikes get even worse gas mileage then our Buells, but an extra gallon or gallon and a half would be nice, I don't think that would make the frame that much more bulky maybe an inch wider or a half an inch wider on both sides of the bike. It would just be nice to be able to go 200 to 250 miles on a tank. Who knows maybe the secret Buell coming out this June will be a sport touring model that holds more fuel, then we can have both. |

Actually, it will be July when we find out what's coming out. Let's just sit patiently and wait. Or we could start another speculation thread. |

I have an xb9s with a K&N and a 12 airbox. My light comes on between 135-140 and I usually ride it pretty hard. I have gone over 160 and have not run out of fuel. 160 Miles is alot farther than many sportbikes can go between fill-ups. As far as fuel capacity goes I suspect the tank holds 3.4 gallons not 3.7 (has anyone here gotten a fillup that was more than 3.4 gallons?). 3.4 is still OK. After all, how many other sportbike can get 54 mpg? |

3.1 gal. was the most I've filled up before. Went about 20 miles on reserve on interstate. Was starting to sweat it a bit near the end there. Anyways, I'm just going to sit here patiently and wait for July. Unless someone with inside knowledge would like to chime in and give us a hint.... |

I just got my city-x yesterday and on the first tank I got 130 before reserve and on the second tank I went 140 miles before I stopped and filled up with 2.4 gallons. But I am still on break in so I was only going 55-60 max. |

For a large cc bike the XB has one of the best mileage ratings. Most of my previous bikes had a shorter range than the XB. Most frame mods would be very expensive tooling changes. But using the space taken by the snorkel wouldn't be too big a change. The extra quart or so would be just about right (not that I'm actually unhappy with the current range). I bet that Buell is sharp enough to come up with a different induction system that will make everyone (EPA,stylest, etc) happy. |

'03 XB9R fuel light comes on between 130 and 135 miles almost every time. And that's with a pretty even split of freeway and city. Freeway is usually 75-80mph except when splitting lanes during my afternoon commute. I weigh 225lbs, too. Not too bad really. |

3.4 gallons sounds mighty close to the number I've been given by 4 XB riders who have pushed their bikes. They all said they struggled to get just under 13 litres in. For all the metric folk out there, 3.4 gallons is near enough to 12.86L. The fuel light comes on at with a bit over 2L of fuel left on mine. |

My light always comes on at 100-110 miles no matter how I ride, so now I just beat it (and grin) more. Yesterday was the first time I passed 110 w/no light. It went 112. |

rode my 12 156.8 miles on a tank, put in a touch less than 3 gallons. the 883 sportster with me used 3.25 gallons.( He was real close to pushing his bike). note that short trips, city riding, and winter fuel all reduce mileage considerably. |

I have gotten 165 miles, but had to push it a couple of blocks. I took 3.478 gallons. |

Hey Tim, What are we doing wrong, hmmmmm maybe it was the 85 mph pace for 140 miles that got us. I know what will solve the problem, exercise, drop about 60 lbs. Then our bikes will go 160 miles on a tank. |

Southern California is already making the switch and this in-between fuel is garbage. Both for my bike and my cage. Lost power, pinging, and the exhaust really stinks. |

Guys these bikes get great gas mileage compared to metric bikes. I ride with Honda's, Suzuki's, Kawasaki's, and Harley's and all three of my Buell's were way better than all the others. The worst? My buddies Superhawk, it gets about 35 mpg on a GREAT day of normal highway riding. Ken |
