guys and gals... When I was out riding last Sunday(did I mention Erik signed my bike??), I noticed a slight shudder in my front end when applying the front brake and slowing from speed. In order to rule it out, I want to make sure my steering capnut is torqued correctly. My interpretation of what the manual tells me is: Loosen the lower triple clamp bolts on each fork leg Loosen/remove the pinch bolt on the steering capnut Tighten/Torque the capnut Tighten/Torque the capnut's pinch bolt Tighten/Torque the bolts on the lower triple clamp Can I do this with weight on the front wheel? Am I missing anything? I don't have the manual with me right now so I'm doing this from memory thanks |

Lower Fork Clamp Bolts: 13-15 FtLbs. Steering Cap: 22-30 FtLbs. Steering Cap Pinch Bolt: 17-19 FtLbs. |

Do not do it with weight on the front wheel. You want the front wheel in the air. If you do it with the front wheel on the ground your fighting the suspension as your trying to sandwich the bearings together. |

Mine had the same problem and making the adjustment helped. But when I was tightening the stem cap pinch bolt I torque to hard and cracked the upper fork clamp. Making the adjustment removed a lot of the play. I still have a small amount and the steering head makes a ping sound when I hold the front brake and move the bike forward and back. I think the movement that is left is coming from the brake pads. I replaced my upper fork clamp with the Heli bars yesterday and was only able to ride for a few miles to test it out. They make a big difference in performance and comfort in a good way. I was really impressed with the quality of the product. Plan to do a lot more testing this weekend. |

That bolt in the triple is simply there to keep the cap nut from coming loose, it has nothing to do with actually holding the triples so it really doesn't need to be tightened alot, as the manual says 17-19ft lbs, which really is nothing. |

i only get it when braking... so i assumed it was the front rotor. I don't know if u know this but the rotor floats on the wheel. This may be where the vibration comes from...or maybe the wheel needs to be balanced |

Vibration went away when I tightened the steering bearings. Rocking back and forth with the front brakes locked does produce a slight "clunk" noise. Comes from the floating rotor. No worries. |

Yeags30 - I know the rotor floats, but this feels a little different Bbstacker - I can feel/hear the "clunk" from the rotor...hopefully the vibration/shudder will go away once I tighten it up tonight I'll let you know. thanks |
