Who strarted the idiotic rumor that the XB9R is the "make or break" bike for Buell?
Only a few people here have any idea what Buell has waiting in the wings.

Even if HD dumped the Buell line tomorrow, does anyone who knows him think Erik Buell would quit?
Not me.

Court,
I agree about the KTM Vtwin I've been waiting for that one to hit the street for a while now. In streetbike form of course. Never been to Paris or Dakar and don't realy care to go.

Greg,

"Who strarted the idiotic rumor that the XB9R is the "make or break" bike for Buell?" - Harley-Davidson.

This is the last year for tax write-offs for Harley. Buell has to become sucessful and profitable.

Don't care to go to Paris? Are you kidding me?

Incredible city. DO NOT pass up on an opportunity to see Paris.

Jim,
HD started the rumor? I think I missed that. Could you elaborate?
When were corporate tax write-offs eliminated? Must have missed that too. Please explain. I really would like to know.

Aaron,
I passed up several opportunities to see Paris. I was in Europe for nearly three years. Did lots of traveling and enjoyed it. I would love to see some of the museums in Paris but I could never get past the attitude of the Frenchmen that I met so I passed.

Actually Aaron, from what I know of the Viper project, it was very Buellish (pilfered lots of chry/dodge parts to save money...made what they needed). Certain parts (like the 1 piece molded plastic bodies) were very high-tech. Yeah, that might be a big old truck engine, but they've got some pretty nifty things in those heads, too.

The early ones did lack creature comforts, but they were not of poor build quality...they were, and still are, the best built chrysler product ever produced, bar none.

=================
Arvel, no biggie, 10 am post. For those coming from a sportbike background and potentially looking at a buell...if they go to anyone but Modesto, or the other 1 or 2 good dealers...they'll turn around and walk out the door and never return. The only reason the asshole I bought my bike from treated me so good was that I was trading a sportster which he knew he could sell by the weekend (and he did), whereas the buell had already sat there for months.

Dealer problems will show their head before Buell ever has a chance to sell many of the XB's.

*IF* they are working to correct some of these problems, you think it would be that difficult or expensive to mass-mail current owners (whose names and addresses they have) a nice, short formletter outlining changes? I don't, and would go a long way in my book...course actual change better follow.

Unfortunately, that's the rub in this business model...technically, the dealers are BMC's consumers (and we are the dealers consumers); yet the dealers have a huge impact on the perceptions of the product; and unless the mfgr. steps in to ensure at least a base-level of performance, the horror stories will continue.

If you get the chance, watch this years Paris-Dakar rally on video. The first 10 places went to KTM with Fabrizio Meoni winning it on the new V-Twin, in it's first year out. I don't recall any racing event when a manufacturer dominated the sport like this year's desert rally.

Giovani Sala came in 6th on the other V-Twin of the race, and the rest of the KTM teams were on singles.

Full coverage of the race can be had at cyclenews.com

WOW... its nice to be recgonized here. I feel at home already. Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Aaron, im glad the bike is doing well... i still miss it alot. My TL1000 makes me smile alot the same tho. I did consider buying another buell when i was shopping this last time, but was unable to find one within my grasp, financialy and location wise. Late this summer ill be in the market for another, so we will see. I had your picture up on my computer at work just the other day... with your wife next to the bike. great picture.

Blake, yes sir i do still have the helmet... I only wear it when ridding a harley these days tho. (someone elses Harley) Its a great head turner.

well its great to see and hear the same old stuff again... seems like nothing changes around here.

Its a unique company that makes unique bikes, and they sell them to unique people. If it makes you happy then why compare.

If anyone sees or hears of a firebolt at a dealer... please let me know. I certainly doubt my dealer will be calling me. I need something to go with the closet full of shirts i have already :)

This is a stretch but.....

Would you not consider the S-1 a shot out of left field considering what came before it?

Now, how about the XB being the shot from right
field considering what came before it.

I can only dream of what is to follow

Ducati will introduce their Moto GP bike this coming Monday on http://wwwmotograndprix.com and on the http://www.ducati.com site as well.

This year's Moto GP racing looks to be the hottest ticket going. 2 strokes against 4 strokes - V-twins, Triples, V-4's and V-5's all racing head to head.

I'll pick Valentino Rossi on the Honda V-5 as the Moto GP winner for the season.

Troy Bayliss to win the World Superbike on a Ducati 998R, and Nicky Hayden to win AMA Superbike on a Honda RC-51 this year.

What are your thoughts?

" I was in Europe for nearly three years. Did lots of traveling and enjoyed it."

Man, I'm envious. I've only been to Europe 3 times, it just fascinates me all the history, I feel like it would take a lifetime to see and understand it all. 3 years there must've been quite the life expanding experience. You suck.

"I would love to see some of the museums in Paris but I could never get past the attitude of the Frenchmen that I met so I passed."

Aw, you just go with the flow. Hell, I fit right in.

We were in a Paris restaurant once, this waiter asks my wife if she's decided. She says "Yes ..." then pauses for just a bit, long enough for him to say "well, are you going to tell me, or do I have to read your mind?". Typical. By that time, we were both so used to it that we just broke up laughing. I think it annoyed him.

David: So you like your TL? I've thought long and hard about a TL, even got close to a deal once. They sure look like neat bikes. I'd still rather have a 100" S1 though! But that's just me. Actually, I can think of at least a dozen bikes I'd like to have. Sigh.

Susy really enjoys the S1. It's a great little bike. You took good care of it and did great work.

Neil: I distinctly remember the first Viper I ever saw, just because of how poorly the body pieces fit together! I'm not joshin' you, that's the truth. I remember the whole car just looked unrefined and crude. I loved it.

Neil,

Uhh, I think we agree. However, I've seen cases where a bad product sold, because of good customer service. The client/consumer felt he was wanted and needed.

Even if Buell built the worlds greatest motorcycle, it would not matter if the dealer does not meet the customer's needs.

What's the news on a BIG Bolt, is it just a rumor. Or is it coming. My friends at Buell said it's gonna start as a kit. Anyone know??
