Hey Jose, I was under the impression that the Pro Thunder Firebolt was displacing a bit over 1100cc's...seeing as how the Bolt/Blast engine is differant shaped than the Lightnings are that seems a bit more beleivable than 1340cc's. |

Ralph: Re Arvel's catfight comment. Not sure, but, I think Arvel just called us both pussies. Arvel: You certainly won't see Ralph and I in thongs immersed in the mud like those other guys. Are you getting a clear image of that Arvel? Enough back hair to carpet Texas Stadium! Jose: "1. Yep, HD uses a silent chain in their Twin Cam 88, but that's for two, not four cams. Probably not as simple to do. I'd keep the gear driven cams of the current Buell lineup, and put the silent chain on the primary. Oil... water... same effect as far as noise is concerned. I think Arvel was referring to a Nallinized big bore Firebolt, not just the factory race kit as we now know it but new jugs, pistons and such too. It would be nice if the factory supported a big bore kit. Did I once hear tell somewhere that they might? It was nice to see that EB interview on air cooling again, thanks for posting it. Blake |

Xgecko The seventh Buell entry was 2001 Formula USA Champion and full-time Buell development rider Shawn Higbee on the new 2002-model Buell Firebolt XB-9R. The Firebolt came to Road Atlanta with a largely untested race-version of the stock chassis containing an adapted version of the current Buell Pro Thunder race engine said by Higbee to produce horsepower "in the 130s". The "current" X1 based Pro Thunder engine has a 3 13/16 bore by a 3 9/16 stroke, or 1332 cc's. From the AMA rulebook: F. PRO THUNDER® EQUIPMENT Pro Thunder motorcycles must meet the following requirements in addition to the requirements in Equipment Standards General and Equipment Standards - All Road Race Motorcycles. All other modifications are unrestricted. 1. Engine Displacements Unlimited 4-stroke single cylinders 600cc - 850cc 4-stroke liquid-cooled twin cylinders (except desmodromic) 600cc - 750cc 4-stroke liquid-cooled desmodronic twin cylinders 700cc - 1350cc 4-stroke air-cooled twin cylinders 700cc - 900cc 4-stroke three cylinders 2. Weight Minimum weight - 380 pounds |

Quote:The only thing we can't compete with as well is sound deadening - but man, from every other standpoint there's an advantage.
Quote:Oil... water... same effect as far as noise is concerned.
Blake, you mean an "oil jacket" instead of a "water jacket" around the heads to suppress the noise? |

Let's see, Blake wants a Big Displacement, air/oil cooled V-Twin, made in America? Hmm, how about four valves, too. Sounds good? Well guess what, Victory has what you need! Engine Type Oil/air-cooled, 50 degree Freedom™ V-twin Bore/Stroke 97x102 mm Displacement 1507cc (92 cu. in) Compression Ratio 9.2:1 Valve Train SOHC; 4 valves per cylinder, self-adjusting cam chains, hydraulic lifters Carburetion Electronic fuel-injection, 44mm throttle bores Fuel Capacity 5.0 gal Exhaust Staggered slash cut dual exhaust with common volume Oil Capacity 6.0 qts |

Went to the Cycle World Show in Atlanta yesterday a couple items on the Firebolt I have not read about here... 1 price to be just under $10,000 2 rear belt produced just for Firebolt with smooth top to ride on the tensioner... 3 plastic body panels just like Blast in material I was very impressed with the detail work and bike was more comfortable than I guessed... Love to ride one... |

If they have to resort to an engine that is that far past reality to even compete that I have to agree with everyone who says that Buell has skewed the rules and still can't win. I was under the impression that they had Nallinized (or something similar) the Firebolt engine not dropped a S1 engine in. Why would anyone care about Buells racing they are worse that Ducati. At least you can buy something that approaches the race Duc's (though it will cost you). BTW sorry Jose |

Jim, I'm in line right after you on that list, but like you I want to feel how the 52 in wheelbase and suspension do on long stretches of washboard concrete. Todd, All of those things you mentioned were mentioned here in the past. The Blast and Firebolt plastic is Dupont Surlyn over Dupont Bexloy. You can look up the characteristics on Google Dot Com if you want. It can be made in any color imaginable. What hasn't been mentioned is that you will be able to buy different skins for about $600 or so. And, to ride one is to be pleasantly surprised, as Fireman Jim and I found out; we were in the first group on the first day of rides given to the buying public last month ... Jim X-2.5 |

Blake, BRH; That's ok. I'll ship you a bottle of NAIR. Thongs you'll have to borrow from someone else. I understand that Court may have a few to loan. Mine are currently in use. No oil though, maybe with my wife later. No one in their right mind would ever call Blake or BHR a pussy. Wait, I'm sane, I can prove it. The Doctor at the state hospital said so when I was relased and reminds me every time I pick up my medication. I thought OU left hog meat as a carpet in Texas for y'all to BBQ. I got this home recipe if you need some sauce. The Nallin kit was what I was driving at, although I like to see the race kit information. Based on the physics. It's nearly impossible to get equivalent HP from long stroke twins when compared to short stroke fours. Also, you can only rev the pushrods and pistons so far. Basically we keep comparing apples to oranges. If you want apples, buy apples. If you want oranges, buy oranges. Just cause you don't want apples, don't gripe cause I do. I wish I could afford a new Firebolt, preferably red. Jim, any idea when those different skins will be avilable? Let see, thats five on order so far. None in Oklahoma yet. Dang, and I was hoping to bum a ride! Arvel |

I imagine most American's on Badweb will be familiar with the name Maxsym ? The Maxsym company is owned by one Patrick Walker and they have roots in Indy Racing as well as other motorsport connections. Is this the same PW as in Racing, I don't know ? I do know the company is based in Banbury , Oxfordshire and it seems they are keen on developing this.............. Now wouldn't that look good in a S1 Lightning chassis ????? http://www.motorcyclenews.com/racing/detail?sectionID=52628&documentID=119160 Rocket in England |
