In a nutshell, last week I went to start the bike and when I hit the starter....CLICK and then everything went completely dead. First thought was the battery, but the one in there now is brand new. Second thought is the main fuse. Pull the seat off and find the box holding it is out of it's bracket. Pull everything apart, check the fuse (it's fine), put it all back, and the bike starts right up. Couple days later and it does the same thing. Pull the seat, wiggle the main fuse box until everything comes back up, then start her up, no worries. So, for a short-term fix, I electrical taped the holder as best I could so there's no play at all and things are great for the last week. Today, it did it again, twice in a row. The solution seems to be to grab the box from both ends and squeeze it while hitting the starter and then it turns over and starts fine. Once it starts it's been fine (so far) and I think it's either a loose wire connection or the fuse itself is not seating properly and when I hit the starter something related to the main fuse is disconnecting ever so slightly. Of course I happen to be a mechanical and electrical idiot, so who knows. I will take it into the shop in the next few days, but wanted to know if anyone has had anything similar happen. For reference, it's an 04 XB12R with race ecu, d&d, k&n and about 2200 miles on the clock. I bought it used about a month ago with 995 miles. Thanks in advance.

Mine does it now and then, but I don't have to take the seat off. I just pull the big fuse out from the left side of the fairing, dry it off, and replace it and everything is fine. Maybe it's just a little moisture or something that gets down in the fuse. Don't know.

I had the same problem with my XB12S when I first got it, but it turned out to be mechanical error on the shops part. The other night i was coming home from work and my dash lights, turn signals, tach and speedometer went blank. Got home and it the fuse had blown, replaced the fuse and it would not start, carried it to the shop and they checked it out and it was the diode fuse, this is twice I have had this problem, everything checks out but it seems I have gotten a hold of two bad fuses. Good luck.

Mine did that a month ago and I thought it was the battery. Replaced the battery and it still did it (anybody need a year old factory AGM battery?) It turned out to be a diode that plugs in one of the fuse box locations (packaged like a fuse, but black with a diode symbol on it). This fuse is in line with the neutral clutch switches and won't let the bike start unless in neutral or clutch pulled in. It had vibrated out a bit and one end was making intermittent contact. Symptom was that when you hit the start button, the headlight would die (as is normal to provide maximum cranking current), but you would only get silence -- no starter at all. Re-seated the diode and no problems since.
