last 2 tanks of fuel, 50 mpg! 04 12s....mostly highway...75 to 80mph...i was shocked,anybody else gettin that? mike | ||

I haven't kept track because I'm always throttling to much and I'm afraid to know. Buell website rates the Bike at 50mpg. With gas prices going up you will probably start seeing more people on motorcycles and scooters. When I tell people with cages the fuel mileage on my motorcycle they always get a surprised look and start thinking they should learn how to ride. In one of my motorcycle mags there is a Diesel bike with 80hp the get 150mpg. I don't think it's for sell yet but I would pay a good amount for that kind of mileage, especially if it will run Bio Diesel. | ||

ok i ride the buell hard and im getting 45-47mph and for one tank i drove nice to see what it would be and it was like 47-50mpg | ||

I have had a couple times that I had nearly all highway miles on a tank of gas and got just over 50 mpg on my 12r. Most of the time it's a combination of city and highway miles and I get 48 mpg | ||

Thats my average if I keep it between 80-85 on the freeway, get 55 if I end up around 55-65 on the freeway. XB12SR | ||

04 XB9S Commuting to work plus short trips to the bank, post office, etc: 50-53 mpg My first long Saturday ride, no stop-and-go traffic, mellow riding (50-65 mph): 59 mpg I'm riding easy on the straights, hard on the corners. :-) Bill | ||

04 12R, HWY 55+, bustin around town, as low as 42. Fuel mileage on this bike is real sensitive to how you ride, (not that I road race or ride like a jackass much  ) | ||

Yea, I get about 50 on average. It's real satisfying to pull up behind a big ol' SUV who's been filling up for five minutes, and leave before them (wait for it...) with a SEVEN DOLLAR receipt! Hahahahaaaaa!  -NadZ | ||

OK, Here is my question? Well, first let me tell you about my set-up...03 9R, swiss cheesed airbox, k&n filter, loud arse drummer, new race plugs. This last tank was 41 mpg. I don't do any road racing, most of my miles are going back and forth t o work. Very rarely do I get to run on the freeway. What can I go to improve my gas mileage? What rpms should I be running at? I have been getting 55 mpg consistently for the last few thousand miles. But I do notice a considerable drop if I gun the throttle a lot. I think 43mpg is the worst I've had. | ||

What can I go to improve my gas mileage? Ride. These bikes don't really get run in until after 10,000 miles or so. I've got a cut air box, TFI, and an Odie pipe, I average around 55mpg, all kinds or riding. | ||

I haven't figured mine yet because the darn fuel light comes on at 100 miles and I'm afraid to ride much further after that. Looks like I have about a gallon left at that time though. So with that math I get 37mpg. Better than a car but not great for a bike. | ||

The tank on the XB9R is 3.7 gallons. the reserve is .7 gallons of the 3.7. XB9R Service manual page 4-1. | ||

yeah but Sctiz, many of us have run the tank dry and managed between 3.4-3.6 gallons to a fill up. My last fill up with the light on showing 20 miles on reserve took 2.7 gallons to full and netted me 125 miles of freeway with me filling up before the next fuel light came on. City milage can be quite a bit lower then highway on my 12, I just do so little city driving its difficult to keep track. For those that fill up before your fuel light, simply reset your trip odometer each time you fill it, that way at the next fuel stop you will know you went X amount of miles on Y amount of gallons. Its also a good practice to run your tank down into the reserve just so your flushing any possible poor quality gas you might have gotten at a fill up out of the tank. | ||

So do you think that the reserve light comes on when there is only a gallon left? I've only had my bike a few months and haven't been brave enough to test the reserve capacity. | ||

i usually run about 10 or so miles when my light comes on ....it's about 2.8 gallons to fill up. sounds about right scitz. providing it is a true 3.7 gallon tank. mike | ||

City = 37 to 42 City/Freeway mix = 47 to 50 Highway 75-85mph = 55 to 60 I actually hit 65 mpg when I kept the speed at 75 with a light tail wind on I-10. Last tank full was $8.25 |
