I'm trying to think of a way to mount a power source for my GPS unit on my 9SX. I want to keep it clean looking. I have cord that adjusts the power from 12V to 3V for the unit. I wonder if anyone has some ideas that would allow me to mount it somewhere where you won't see it. | ||

Got mine mounted on the center of the bar clamps. Power supply= its batteries. | ||

Cataract2... I was thinking about this as well. There is a "3rd headlight" lamp in the middle of the two headlights, all plumbed in and ready to go but with no bulb. It is for European regulations, which require you to be able to leave a light on the bike but take the keys away. There is a ignition switch position where you can do this (leave that light on but leave the bike locked). Just go under the flyscreen / pull the headlights (not a bad job) and tap right into that wire, and run it right up the flyscreen up to a GPS power connector of your choice. It will work like normal most of the time, and even allows you to leave it powered up but walk off with the keys if necessary. | ||

there are also two unused fuse positions in the fuse box under the seat. it is a very simple matter to wire these in to either switched or battery power. i use one for my HID low beam , and the other for my PIAA auxilliary lamps. | ||

Get the Battery Tender harness that connects to the battery terminals, it's fused, and then you can go to any auto parts, hardware, Radio Shack and get a 2 pole trailer connector. OBSERVE POLARITY! I have my Garmin Streetpilot mounted to my Buell tank bag and the lead runs under the seat and comes out in front of the seat to the tankbag. H/D also has a battery harness- I think around $7? It has a cap to protect the ends tho. Also plug in my heated gear. And then keep the XB connected to the Battery Tender when in the garage. |
