Sped Triple
Saw a new Speed Triple looked good from a distance. Anybody had a pop to compare with a 12s. Had a '99 Speed Triple for a while.Great torque + power but top heavy and tall for short my short legs. Not going back just wondered.

one very hot machine. they bumped them up to 1050 cc's, and something like 124 horsepower. going to have one , right after i get a ducati.

Take a look at this review: go to http://www.canyonchasers.net/ and click on the link titled 2005 Speed Triple vs. all the other Naked bikes.

This is a European article comparing these bikes:
1. Triumph Speed Triple
2. KTM Superduke
3. MV Brutale
4. Benelli TNT
5. Aprilia Tuono
6. Ducati SR4 monster
7. Buell XB-12s
8. Kawasaki Z1000

The list is how they rated them. The reviewers rave about the XB's handling, only dissing it because of the engine and powertrain. Of course, you may notice that half the bikes listed are pretty much unobtainable (seen any Brutales in your neighbourhood lately? TNTs?)

Not to mention that it was a British magazine review and the guy who runs the Canyon Carvers website owns a Speed Triple and a Trumph Spitfire !!!

Anyone sense a little "bias" ???

I've given up on mag reviews over which bike is best. Each person will have a bias in this. I'll just stick with user reviews of the bike and buy what I want and not what someone else says is the best.

I read that review last week in the Motorcycle News. I have to say that, although the 12R only came 7th in the final line up, the comments the reviewers made were on the whole most positive. The only negative issues identified were vibes a clunky gearchange and not enough top end. I am sure if you review this site you will find many owners who complain of the exact same thing. Most of the bikes in this piece are brand new models or at least upgrades of established models whilst the 12 has remained unchanged since its introduction a few years ago, but even then it manages to hold its own. Given all the above I dont think you can label the piece as suffering form 'British Bias' I think they just called it like they saw it. I get the MCN religiously and I always find their reviewing very impartial. I live in the UK and I have never seen a Brutale, Tuono,TNT or Super D on the road here either! I agree with what Cataract2 said...,they only review that matters is your own!

I too worship at the tome MCN UK, and have had my arse hauled over the coals on BadWeB a few times because of my support for them but I tell you the Exup Monkey is right in what he says. That's exactly how I read the review too.

It's worth pointing out that three of the assembled testers were ordinary guys like you and I selected at random to give the review a more creditable status.

All but one of the testers said they would like to own the Brutale. The one on his own said he'd own the KTM but then he did say he preferred off road riding.

Aside from when I went down to Three Cross to test ride I have seen two Brutale's on UK roads. One was at Squires Coffee Bar the other executive parked at the British GP last year. Tuono's are sold in my home town by Miles Kingsport so I've seen a few around these parts. The TNT I've not seen on a road anywhere except when I tested one, again at Three Cross.

What strikes me about all the bikes in the test except the Z1000 and the Speed Triple is their exotic backgrounds but no doubt exotic or otherwise they are all good bikes.

The Z1000 I found a little soft and you had to wring its neck but no doubt about it it's a fast bike. Probably its biggest problem besides its lack of pedigree is keeping its fixtures and fittings from rusting. Not recommended for winter use probably.

The Brutale was gutless under 4000rpm and spoilt the ride a little because of it. The test bikes (I rode two of them) were set up soft never the less the Brutale is a phenomenal handler and will go where you point it. Again no mistake Brutale's are 150mph bikes thus very fast. The exhaust scream is awesome too.

The TNT I found very similar in performance to the Brutale but it felt a little tall in the saddle and my feet felt like they were tucked under the motor. I didn't like the feel of the bar position either but they did work well once on the move. Again a very bloody quick motorcycle and the handling is up there too. The exhaust scream on this one sounds like an F1 car and simply has to be heard to be believed.

Of all the Monsters I've ridden they all feel physically small. That's not a criticism just an observation. I've not ridden an S4R but the 916 motor is an absolute stonker if like me you love your V twins. The S4R's biggest problem is probably its own softer option models. I get the feeling the S4R will not be bought through fashion but more through performance - and by all accounts everyone who's ridden one says it's got loads of that.

A good friend owned a Tuono for a short while until he tired of behaving like a stunt god on it. I missed the opportunity to ride it but by all accounts he liked it a lot because he never stopped raving about it whilst he owned it. Yes it is a fast bike according to my friend. but then it does use the Mille motor.

The Super Duke is like a big dirt bike that feels small. Certainly so when you sit on it - but I've not ridden one. That said, if it goes better than any of the other KTM's in the range which it's supposed to do it is going to be an awesome bike. All the KTM's are selling well over here. KTM have a superb clothing and accessory range too. My guess is they're serious about everything they do and they're playing to win.

The latest Speed Triple I've not ridden but Triumph do have a reputation for making fast and power! This latest I suspect will be their best yet. It certainly fits in with current trends. Do you know you can wheelie a Rocket III in the first three gears.

The Buell? I've never ridden an XB so I'll leave that to those who have

I saw someone riding one this weekend and it was sweet looking. Nice aggresive street fighter look. I wouldn't mind having one.
