I have an XB9 with the race kit muffler, ECM and filter. I just picked up the bike used with these parts already installed. The RPM varies/surges a lot at idle and small throttle settings. Also if I rev it up a little at let it drop back to idle it nearly dies. I've heard some talk about reseting the TPS with the race kit, are my symptoms what you get if the TPS isn't reset? Is it possible to reset it myself (I don't usually trust shop techs with anything I own)? | ||

Yes, you must reset the TPS. In most cases, the bike will run like crap if you do not -- some people get lucky, but it's rare. Three options: 1) Go to the dealer and have them reset your TPS 2) Find someone who has the TechnoResearch Software to do it for you. 3) Purchase the technoresearch software from DaveS and never worry about this again. http://www.technoresearch.com or eMail DaveS Chris | ||

How much does the Technoresearch package cost? Is it worth purchasing if you don't plan on doing a lot of retuning? I've got the same setup as Thetick and it seems like mine fouls plugs a lot. I'm thinking the original owner didn't reset the TPS. It runs pretty good, but is a bit touchy at low RPM's and I also noticed this weekend that if the engine is hot from a lengthy driving period, that it doesn't restart very well after a short cooldown (less than a couple of minutes). | ||

yes you can succesfully reset your TPS zero value with the technoresearch device. it is likely that you will have to have a phone conversation or two with Giamberto, who will very patiently walk you through the procedure. there have been some software revisions, so you will probably have to down load the freshest copy. | ||

yeah, Giamberto called back, apparently the software has a glitch wherein as soon as the tps value is stored, the dongle disconnects itself from the com port, and no data is transferred, so the program is completely nonresponsive, and appears to be broken. one needs to access the toolbar at top of screen and open the communication up again. he is hoping to revise the software to obviate that extra series of steps. says there should be a more current download available soon.. in any case, the TPS was presumably reset, and the bike is running alright. still pretty lean at light throttle cruise, some rough running, and lean misfiring. bone white spark plugs, but that is normal for these EFI bikes. | ||

The PC version of the SW was not working. It SAYS the TPS reset is successful, but it was not actually doing it. I've been working with the SW dudes, and I have the version here (2.71-O) for the PC that absolutely works. I've let them know, and I'm sure they will get that version up on their site asap for download. The PDA version may not have had the same bug, I've only been working with the PC version. The disconnect is not a bug. When in active setting mode, the connection type is not the same as when in diagnostic mode. I don't think that will change in the new versions. But it is trivial to push the reconnect button, so I don't consider it a big deal. Al | ||

Dumb Question of the Week... Should I disconnect my TFI Digital Fuel Optimizer on my X1 before having a TPS reset done? I guess what I am asking is whether or not the DFO will have any effect on the reset. | ||
