I've had the 1050 big bore for about 2000 miles now, and have nothing but good things to say about it. It's fast enough now to keep up with all my buddies on their old tube frame Buells in a straight line and now pulls out of the corners faster and stronger and leaves me with a bigger smile every time I ride it. I would really recommend it if you want some more power out of that bike of yours. |

I would go all out and get the 1200cc big bore kit. |

I have the 1169cc kit from Rich @ Innovative www.racingmotorcycles.com. its a great kit and I have been racing mine since mid season last year. Pretty loud kit but sounds good and is at about 110hp fully tuned. (Message edited by firebolt428 on March 09, 2005) (Message edited by Glitch on March 09, 2005) |

Firebolt, did you have to have the cases bored? |

that link dont seem to work..... matt at trojan told me the other day he was near to releasing a 1131cc kit that would req very little work to install....just waiting for the full story of how much work is needed ,case boring etc.... |

Rigga, I fixed the link. You can try it now. I was wondering how big you could bore the 1050 kit, that way you wouldn't have to bore the cases. |

We use the Revolution Performance kits from Brian Nallin (Millenium cylinders). Thereīs a 1030 kit for the XB9 and a 1250 kit for the XB12 that needs no case boring. Anything bigger (typically 1170 and 1200 for the XB9 and 1430 and 1470 for the XB12) needs case boring. Regards Alex |

I guess 1050 is the biggest an XB9 can get without boring the case. |

glitch..... like i said wait and see what matt at trojan comes up with this 1131 kit,his words were "it would need very little work to install".... case boring is more than a little work to my mind,he also mentioned this would use iron liners and is being developed on his race bike, which has been more than a little successful in twins racing |

plus matt advised me like a few others on here its best to stick with the 9 crank and ecm rather than my original plan of sticking a 12 crank in the bike, would need to fit flat top pistons and use a 12 ecm to prevent the bike from grenading very rapidly...best to use the higher revs of the 9 and a bigger bore, poss 12 injetors if they are different to the 9 versions flow wise? |

I knew about building a 9 rather than a 12. The only thing I've heard about injectors, was Jen (from HillBilly Motors) said to use BMW1150 injectors. I don't know the difference in 9 & 12 injectors if there is one. |

I did the 1169 bore-out of the XB9 - short stroke, lightened/balanced crankset. I have the Millenium cylinders. I did a bunch of other stuff - stage 3, roller rockers, hydrosolids, springs - stuff needed to rev the motor to higher RPMS. Put in 585 cam set. Bored XB12 throttle bodies. It'll put out more power if I ran the compression higher and ran $$$ gas but I am still needing to improve my own riding - so don't need more HP yet - I don't want to have reliability suffer I kept the compression down to 10.5:1 so I can still use pump gas or Ultima 4 (VP leaded race gas) Still running the stock injectors - will be changing to the high pressure fuel pressure regulator soon as I'm healed up enough to turn wrenches again. Not sure if there's a generic high pressure fuel pressure regulator available over the counter (like most stuff, it's probably an automotive product) - I got mine directly from Buell racing. I don't know what makes the most sense - higher flow injectors or higher fuel pressure with stock injectors... just no data (Message edited by slaughter on March 10, 2005) |

Rigga, if You like I will do some calculations for You. Now we got 1131ccm displacement announced. Stock stroke of a XB9 is 3.125". If I use my old brain I get to a 3.75" bore required to make a 3.125" crank resulting in a 1131ccm displacement engine using two cylinders. The stock case spigot bore is 3.70". Now Iīm really interested how one can get a 3.75" bore cylinder into a 3.70" spigot bore. Until Matt didnīt find something like a "anti-material-cast-iron-liner" I guess he will need to bore the case. Maybe You just got something wrong. Best regards Alex |

The 1131 kit will need case boring, but obviously much less than the other kits, leaving more 'meat' on the casings between the V of the engine. Once all the final details are completed I will post full specs |

alex.... i have only limited information and i have listed it as such....matt just stated it was nearing final development and would need very little work to fit...thats all i know and all i stated,i understand your reasoning ref the displacement and how it could be acheived, and suspect you are correct also,i am therefore neither right or wrong |

Trojan, I know about 1130 kits as I had one on the desk last year and I know that one can get away with a slightly smaller spigot bore diameter but I wonder if You experienced any case stability problems with 1170 kits? Best regards Alex |

Hi Alex, We haven't had any reliability problems although most of the 1170 kits seem to be used for race use only. I am still a little unsure about long term reliability on higher mileage motors with the bigger bore kits because of the amount taken out of the cases. Maybe I am being paranoid though |

Alex and Trojan, are ya'll saying that the 1200cc kit isn't reliable enough for the street? |

Hi Glitch, I'm not saying that it isn't reliable as I haven't heard any adverse reports. I just don't like the amount of case that has to be bored out, leaving precious little left. The bolt in the centre of the V has to be 'wasted' in order for it to fit once the cases are bored, and it needs a nut to secure it as the threaded part of the case is gone. It is just this that worries me about the long term reliability. |

Thanks Trojan, I didn't know any of that. I'm with you, it would worry me also. |

Maybe I am being paranoid though perhaps not related, but i blow up my engine, ( +/- 20ooo km on the crack ) bigend bearing failure, bad bearing ? the front rod is oval to heavy on engine braking ? my driving style is full throttle& heavy braking ! damage; nicasil lining, pistons, cranck + bearings, oilpomp. more or les a complete rebuild ps. i'm not trying to scare anyone , becouse the setup is very nice to drive,in my opinion better than a kitted 12 |

Trojan, we donīt "waste" the bolt in the center. We do it like it had been done for the last decades for all Big Bore Harley engines. Simply bore through the complete case, use a long screw with a nut and bore the case with the screw in place. I for myself donīt see any problems with the 3 13/16 or 3 7/8 bore sizes. Our test mule didnīt show any problem during the last 1000km on the race track without engine tear down. Iīm sure You know how hard life can be for a track engine. Bud: all lower connecting rod races become oval after a short time. When I disassemble cranks I find front and rear rod races being oval even in engines with less than 2000km. Maybe a bad bearing. Maybe too much rpm for too long. Maybe simply being too hard on the throttle. All these things will kill a stock XB9 engine as well. Best regards Alex |
