(Just looking for confirmation) Yesterday was beautiful! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=4062&post=398178#POST 398178 I found myself going wide on a turn or two yesterday. Kept it in my lane, but wasn't happy with myself. I suspect it was because I stayed on the front brake too long as I approached the turn where I should have trail braked instead. Comments? Thanks... |

Are you looking as far through the turn as possible? Also if it's been a while since you've ridden, it may mean you just need some more ridin' weather. |

Are you looking as far through the turn as possible? Prolly part of it. I started out real good, but started to get sloppy once I started to think too much about what I was doing... Looking thru a turn and letting the bike do what it is supposed to do cannot be understated. It's like some sort of magic. Question stands on the braking though. Thanks. |

Lately, I hardly ever use the brakes in spirited street riding. This way I'm forced to slow through engine braking early and never find myself too hot, which is where I don't want to be on the street. I know people do this at trackdays, but I've found my friends who go charging into the corner are quickly caught on the exit on the street too. I know the typed word doesn't always come across right so I'm not trying to sound upity or deriding but it sounds like you might be braking late and not allowing yourself to concentrate on the things like looking through and body english because these things start before entry, but instead you might still be preoccupied with braking at this crucial time. Again, just trying to answer your question. Or like Glitch said, winter may have you rusty (Message edited by charlieboy6649 on March 07, 2005) |

I wouldn't think it would be your braking, unless you are braking way late, then your turn in. I had the opposite problem, I wasn't braking with the brake, I was letting the engine do all that. I was tightening the turn too much, almost crossing the yellow. Started looking more ahead and everything was nice again. |

ive had problems with my turning too, so embarrased. Man winter really takes a toll huh? gotta take it easy until the weather breaks and then ride easy until im comfortable again. Amazing how a few months off and the rust sets in. |

I complained to the leather manufactures at a bike show about my leathers shrinking, they said they hear a lot of that.( stay out of the pantry) |

All my clothes shrink in the winter, especially this last one. I don't really know what it'll be like to get on a bike again. In my head, I still assume the confidence I had before, but it's been a long time. Will I know when to brake, when to roll on the throttle? We'll see. |

I too went wide from being hard on the front brake too late into a corner the weekend before last, Just dont use the brake and it will yeild much better results, see no brake coming in and hammering the gas on the way out, works every time. |

wish i could drag a knee New12r is a smooth rider. I rode behind him this last trip up. We were in the groove all day. I couldn't catch up after a GSXR750 passed us going up 129. Charlie just took off after him and all I saw was them carvin' asphalt up the twistie part before you get to the Appalachian Trail crossing. It was the best Ride this year. |

It is not the cold that gets me, it's the little critters that run like a scalded cat when they hear the roar of American Muscle coming at them. |

Two things in my opinion: 1: If you have Dunlop 207's get rid of them. 2: If you don't already counter-steer learn to do it. It should not take much if your xb is set up correctly suspension wise and if you run rounder profile tires. xbolt12 |
