I am in search of a recommended local shop that does tires for my '03 XB9S. I called a couple of the dealerships and they all quoted me around $145 for labor plus rubber. Does anyone in the valley have anyone they would recommend? Thanks! |

Skunk Motor sports 202 w.main st.Mesa.480 649 2800 They quoted me $325.00 for a set of 208s installed. If you bring in the bike they charge $50.00 a wheel labor. Chosa's referd me to them since they are not a Buell dealer anymore. The one guy at skunks is a factory trained Buell tech. They seemed pretty cool and thats where I'll go for my tires on my Buell or my FXDL. |

Take the wheels off the bike yourself and take them to Cycle Gear. Just be certain to take some painters tape and mark the direction of rotation on the pulley and the front brake rotor. If you leave the wheels on the bike and take it anywhere but a dealerm the chances of your belt being damaged are alot higher. If you buy your new tires from Cycle Gear the charges for install are half of what they charge for installing tires from somewhere else. |

If I bring in the wheels, the local shop charges $15 each... That's if I don't buy the rubber from them... I still swap my own tires though... |

BTW, just an FYI, if you look in the Stormfronts section of the message board you will find a section for AZ. Some of the AZers don't read the XBoard. |

Thanks wycked! I learned something new today. I didn't even know that section existed. I found a local shop here in Mesa that was willing to match the internet price on tires, and charge $75 for mounting and balancing...That's bringing the bike in, not just the rims! I will be sure to post some info if they do a good job. A friend of mine works there, so it should go well... |

I assume these mount and balance charges are HD shops . . . My aprilia dealer in Oklahoma City charges $30 per tire if you bring it in. $45 if they have to take it off the bike. Cycle Gear charges $12 per tire for mount and balance if you bring in the wheel/tire and buy the new rubber from them. |

I checked out Cycle Gear. Unfortunaetly I don't have access to a lift or tools to take the wheels off, and thats what they need. I did find a local shop that would do all the labor for $75. Thats a pretty good deal I think. I'll let everyone know how the service is. Thanks for the info |

Orangeokie unfortunatley that isn't just the HD dealers. Most of the shops around here prefer you to bring the wheels in off the bikes. Trevor, if you made a post over in the AZ section I wouldn't be suprised at all if one of us Phoenix residents has stands that could be loaned to you for a day. Heck one or two might even use it as an excuse to get together and BS for while in the process... |

CRAP, Wycked your totally right I should have done just that. I honestly didn't even know that section existed until you mentioned it. I ended up tracking down a buddy who's friend works at American Chopper in Mesa. They are doing it for $75 and cost on the M1's. At least now I know...Thanks... |

Or cages full of little unbuckled children that keep the driver from ever looking at the road much less the vehicles on it. If you want pictures get Arizona Highways. If you want to ride in some well... exciting situations plan a road trip. ( plus it's raining today. Time to go play with traffic that can't understand water falling from the sky.) |

>Time to go play with traffic that can't understand water falling from the sky. Like the vast majority of folks here in the "Valley of the Sun" I'm a transplant. Now, I've been here 11 years, but I do have distinct childhood memories of this thing called rain. Why is it that so many people can't transfer their wet-weather driving skills with them when they move here? Or is it this bad everywhere now? |

Part of the problem here is not so much the water falling from the sky, but the sudden pools and rivers that appear on the roadways... |

"Part of the problem here is not so much the water falling from the sky, but the sudden pools and rivers that appear on the roadways..." In rain the general threat to riders is from cages driving in manners that are not "normal". the small contact patch of our tires actually make motorcycles less prone to hydroplaining or other unpredictable behavior. True you can't corner quite as fast on wet pavement but when on the valley floor are you really cornering fast at a stop light? |
