This seems like a good place to publicly post an exchange of e-mails. I hope you all find this interesting. Where it all started: MO Bikini Bike Shootout -----Original Message----- From: Ray Maines [mailto:raymaines@hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, October 26, 2001 11:40 PM To: Blake@BadWeatherBikers.com Subject: How old is the BadWeb? Hi Blake, When did the Bad Weather Bikers BBS get started? How old are we? Thanks, Ray Maines Hi Ray: We started out as five guys that met on the MO Bikini Bike Shootout discussion page. That was back in January 1998 right after I had purchased my first '97 Cyclone. By June with the addition of many from the PACBOG fold and others, the list had swelled to over 50 members and the amount of email everyday had become cumbersome. With the impetus of a bet with "Fearless Bueller" wife of "Ferris Bueller" of PACBOG fame, I started the web page BBS (won the bet, and promptly received a SPLASH T-Shirt). I'm not sure, but I think we were the first non-factory Buell discussion web site. Soon after, ATC came online. Then SacBORG and others. BadWeB now consists of around 2000 active registered members, with a total of over 10,000 (many unregistered) who access the site on a regular basis. I guess I oughta post this kind of info on the site somewhere. I sure enjoy all your contributions on the site. Thanks, and "See you out there", Blake |

Actually, we're now up to around 12,000 distinct hosts served. Given that some hit the site from work and home it's hard to say how many individuals are visiting. Somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000? People checking in from 34 different countries, including Russia, Austria, Luxembourg, Argentina, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Greece, Spain, South Africa, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Taiwan, Turkey, and Japan. |

Hey. I always thought Bad Weather meant this was where to hang out when the weather was too cold or wet to go riding. And in the spring we're supposed to stay off the computer and go for a ride. Lightnings and Cyclones and Thunderbolts. Oh my! Now I get it. Well. Gotta go. Gotta get up early and go riding! |

Hello all, this is my first time on the board. I recently decided that it was time for me to invest in a bike and experience all the rave that is riding that I hear my buddies talking about. All my buddies ride Harleys but I am bent on owning a Buell. Specifically, a Buell S1 Lighting. Why? Well it seems like everyone owns a Harley and yet while they are American made and deep in quality and tradition, I just don't feel they are right for me. Buell, on the other hand from what I can tell from my reseach is an American made bike like Harley and emcompasses all the same qualities (or at least makes the effort to) that Harley Davison is known for. Not to mention I'm partial to the really cool looking frame work and street bike feel. I was drawn to the S1 after researching all the different models and even after originally having my heart set on the new Firebolt(very nice bike). But upon doing reseach and finding all the really nice pictures of some amazing S1's and their seemingly very happy owners I thought I would set out to own one of these puppies. I've noticed that there are many places online that offer accessories for just about ever part of the bike you can think of which is good because I really have my heart set on making mine as personalized as possible. My questions: How many people out there on this board own a Buell S1 Lighting? How do they handle? What are some of their better features that draw you to the bike? What are their drawbacks, if any? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am clueless about these bikes except from what I've seen and read online. Thanks! Newbie Fred |

Newbie, Welcome to BadWeB! Try reading the New/Prospective Bueller Topic located in the Knowledge Vault. Then repost your question there. This topic (About BadWeatherBikers.com - BWB History) isn't the best place for your specific question. I'm an M2 fan myself, but would love a vintage S1 as well. It is THE true hooligan streetfighter. Let me know you have seen this and we'll let a moderator move it into the appropriate topic. |

from MO: Blake TYR11370@mail.tyler.net Tue Feb 3 22:02:05 PST 1998 Anyone interested in joining/forming a newsgroup/email list concerning Buell motorcycles send email stating such to me at "b&mrudy@kilgore.net". I've searched far and wide and have not found a Buell specific group. If anyone knows of one already in existence, please let me know. Thanks, Blake geez, Blake, that seemed like such an innocent question at the time, didn't it? FB |

Hi Joe, welcome to the BadWeb. They have a Thumper Forum here complete with a Knowledge Vault full of gems of knowledge about your Blast. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/20164/20164.html?1151748725 You can go direct to that from the Topics page. Many of the regulars read all the posts (using the Search page and the New Message option) and I'm sure they'll spot your post and answer up. But you'll most likely get faster action on the other forum. Jack |

I've tried the search function but can't seem to find the answer. Can someone please explain what the "3%" stands for, and also, how is someones profile status assigned? Thanks. This is a great forum. Nothing like this existed "back in the day" when I last rode. This site with the knowledge fault, and the many, many people willing to help out with details, pictures, and general advice is just outstanding. It's like having thousands of riding buddies in your neighbourhood. |

Does BWB forum do anything for Erik's birthday? If not I bet he'd love a 3% birthday card. Not some cheap assed Ecard! |

I think the REAL reason why Erik Buell was burned by HD is a shame & I'd really like to give the man the respect he obviously didn't get from what looks to be a bunch of idiots who are running HD into the ground. I've asked this elsewhere but would someone PLEASE help change my username? BTW would $15/mo. be considered an adequate? |
