Hey guys , I know there’s a big thread on this but don’t want to spend a few days reading it over. Have an 08 1125r , 64 k , charge light just came on today . Luckily made it home with 10 volts left . Do I just need stator or regulator also ? Was looking over manual & say i need crank holding tool & another sst . Any recommendations. Anything else needed for repairs. Thanks

Wow 64k. Congratulations. I’d do it all if it were me. I think there are better alternatives to the stock reg/rec.

Maybe an electrical engineer type who is conversant in 1125 2008s vs later 1125s could say this better. From my knowledge and barely 20,000 miles, the 2008 is underpowered in the charging department.

If the following was done, they will have longer battery life than later models with newer charge systems. Just my seat of the pants guess.

If the bike is left unridden for weeks, it takes a long 100+ mile ride just to wake up the battery to a 12.6 volts (even if it starts out charging at 14.4+V). Get it back and trickle charge over night BUT NEVER LEAVE IT ON LONG TERM, no matter a trickle or expensive maintainer type.

Precaution ---- if the power goes off on these chargers they will bleed your battery down to zero and resultant of 1/2 your life is gone forever. Disconnect the terminals of the charger from the battery completely (BOTH) when done.

If storing or leaving the bike more than 2 weeks, fully disconnect BOTH leads on the battery and check the voltage for over 12.5 for starting. I charge if it is 12.6. Yes it makes a huge battery life difference to take those few extra minutes no matter what year 1125 and practice this on all my bikes.

First, always use your kill switch when shutting down your 1125r.

Second, I'd check every ground. Make sure all are firmly hand tight.

Like has been said, these bikes are extremely sensitive to battery voltages being off even slightly.

Fully recharge the battery and take your 1125r out for a long run. It makes a huge difference if the bike is routinely run for an hour or more. No excuses now that the weather is nice.

Update . No short to ground though stator windings, resistance ok through each phase , 40 volts dc through each phase at 3k rpm . Looks like only vr failed . Ordered a stock one to get me on the road & twin motorcycles mofsett vr which I’ll put in when I get it

Glad you gave us a follow-up!

Yeah, there is a parasidic drain in the wiring harness somewhere.

All 1125r have this issue. So use your kill switch and life will be better, at least for riding your bike!
