Motoring home this afternoon and felt inner part of my legs getting warm, just warm, not hot. Pulled in and gassed up. Had 111.0 miles on that fill up and put 3.7 gallons in. So, I got to thinking. Is my legs getting warm a good indicator of fuel state? I could have gone another 40 miles in hind sight. But, it's a thought. |

That is a common observation. These engines get very poor fuel efficiency and for several reasons, not the least of which is the overheating of the fuel. It really helps to insulate the bottom of the fuel tank/frame from both the engine heat and the waste heat from the radiators. |

Yeah... While they do...come with a few areas of insulation, you can basically cover the entire engine/transmission area with a stick-on insulation. While not...a cure all, it does help. There are various insulation types available. On my bikes I use a fiberglass/aluminum foil type insulator. It's fairly thin, but does a decent job. On both (1125 & EBR) bikes, there is a VERY small clearance between the cylinder head and the inner frame wall, so no thicker type insulation will work. Note - This can be said for both the 1125's and the (1190) EBR's. Mike |
