A friend, also a long time rider, tells me it's best to use kill switch to stop motor. Anybody know anything about this?

I've been doing it for many years, but I cannot see that it is better.

Over the years, I've heard on the 08s there is some parasitic draw that is neutralized by using the kill switch. I've went to more technologically bikes over the last 5 years, so i've gotten into the habit of using it on all of those bikes that I own. I have no clue if it helps, figure it can't hurt though (lots more wires on these bikes than what I used to ride).

I would guess if you keep your Buell on a battery tender, no problems with parasitic battery drain.

However, a lot of times your bike is not on your property and not on a battery tender.

Therefore, ALWAYS shut your bike down using the kill switch.

Cupcake Mike said it "...so i've gotten into the habit of using it on all of those bikes that I own." Easy, good, habit to have!

I ve always used it to kill the engine. It just seems like that is what it is for. I know on other bikes people say never touch it (Aprilia). Haven’t quite figured that out yet.

So I’m confused?!? We are talking about the on/off red lever on the right side? The one I have accidentally hit many times while riding…. What other way is there to shut it off? Reach over the left side to turn the key “off”?

Ignition switch for me. on all of my bikes since 1985.
I see the "kill switch" as an emergency off switch.

Olddog... You are correct.
Always use the red rocker switch on the handle bar, the front brake side, to turn off the engine. There is a feedback to the charge system that can cause problems if you use the ignition key switch to shut off the engine.

That is from Buell engineering folks back in 2004 when I bought my new 2003 Buell XB9S and am still track daying the little guy.

Whenever I hand the bike over to the HD dealer to fix or inspect, I put an index card on the bar to use the red rocker switch and NOT the ignition key...That is a Harley-Davidson habit that will shorten the life of your XBs.
