Just what it says. Depends on price I guess. Looking to get my valve clearance checked/ adjusted on an 09 1125cr. I'm a little wary of stripping bike down to that level to rotate engine. I've adjusted valves on older bikes (84 Magna, 89 cbr) without a problem. So here's the deal, I'm the 3rd owner and the 2nd owner "seems to remember" 1st owner saying something about it getting done. Seems to be some tapping coming from engine that goes away, or at least calms down, after riding. I know these are loud engines, but how loud is too loud? Thanks in advance. |

With the design of this engine, a quiet engine is one to have concern for. As the valves wear in the clearances get tight, i.e. less noisy top end. If you don't know for sure when the last time it was done, its worth doing for piece of mind. Not to mention your spark plugs could probably use changing. If you have a few tools, patience, a manual and a clean place to do it, its not a hard task. I just pull the frame off the engine, its easier (in my mind) than rotating and you have more access to stuff. I'd buy the complete shim kit and magnetic tool from AMF (https://aagaardmotofoundry.bigcartel.com/category/ valves-valve-train-valve-adjustment) all in it will cost you about $200 but you won't ever have to buy shims again probably. A shop is going to charge you anywhere from $5-700 (on the low end), assuming you can find someone to take on the job. |
