G’day all, what’s the best way to lift the rear of the bike to remove the shock? The service manual says to use the jacking point underneath which seems to be the stock muffler (which isn’t fitted). I was planning to use a floor crane & strap through the sub frame, until I realised the upper Rh mounting point is fixed via the top shock mount. Is it strong enough with the bolt removed, or is there a better way? Cheers. | ||

Buellizms #7262 Use tie downs to a rafter from the pillion peg mounts or use an A-frame ladder. It's light, anything that will hold your weight will hold the rear of the bike up just fine. | ||

Yea, that's what I did. Drilled a hole in a convenient rafter (4" x 8") in my garage. Wrapped a 1" strap through it and when I need it, I just connect a come-along or ratchet strap to the 1" strap and go to work. Mike | ||

I've flipped over the rider pegs and then positioned jack stands under them which works pretty well also. | ||

 yeah, that could get interesting. I just put a nice Wilburs on the back of my 1125 using the flipped pegs and jackstands method. Though there is little chance of of the bike tipping, falling, etc. I just never liked the from the rafters method. I don't have a front stand but you may be able to use a front stand, then a scissor or bottle jack under the rear of the engine but that is very near the COG so things get pretty tippy around there. | ||

I'm in process of removing engine from my 1125. Have it up on rear and front stands. Also have cargo strap holding up rear. And, cargo strap around upper triple tree. Straps are rafter carried. They are there just in case. Will support swingarm with a scissors jack. Motor on a table top jack. |
