I've been a big fan of the SDP993 Dunlopad brake pads, but I've had an issue where the pad has come apart and embedded itself in the rotor at least once, and possibly twice (I have a severe judder after running Deals Gap on Friday). I am loathe to use EBC as thy have been mediocre in the past. I came across Goldfren pads on Ebay. Has anyone used them? https://www.ebay.com/itm/GOLDfren-Brake-Pads-S33-2 69-FA454-4-S33-269/164308769619?hash=item264190db5 3:g:uigAAOSwx1lfIE~V

Brake pads that separate from their backing!?! "Possibly twice"?!? I believe thats all the warning you'll get to stay away from E-bay cheapies from now on.

Surprisingly there is not much regulation in brake pads manufacture.

Both Brembo and SBS make excellent Buell brake pads and have several compounds to choose from with DRAMATICALLY different friction profiles.

So does the popular EBC. I didn't like the regular "HH" pads on the street but they have an "EPFA" option that I do like. Try their track day compound and see if you like them. At least they don't fall apart.

The Dunlopad pads are the ones that are problematic on my 1125R. (I've also used them on my Vmax 1700 and, IIRC, my Speed Triple, and they've worked fine.. so there's just something about the 1125R that's an issue.)

I want pads that have good initial bite, especially when cold, but don't fall off when they get warm. I've used EBC HH pads before and was underwhelmed, so I am not in a big hurry to try them again. Brembo pads, in my general experience, stop decently, but are dusty as heck. Never tried SBS pads.

Given that, at $22 for the set, the Goldfren pads are basically disposable if I don't like them, I may just buy a set and give them a shot unless someone has some other input.

I think I have some Goldfren organics on at the moment. I mostly ride the poor beast through town and was getting deposits on the front rotor and shuddering with the whichever metallics. They don't have the initial bite of the metals, but they stop fine with a bit more finger pressure and don't get the shudders.

Are you guys with brake problems* just popping replacement pads?

Scrubbing both sides of the rotor with scotchbrite and cleaner, then re-bedding the pads can dramatically improve your braking performance, even using the same old pads. That procedure can also completely eliminate the oft mis-diagnosed warped rotor pulsing that comes from uneven brake pad deposits.

You should be able to find the force/heat chart for any pad type on the website (if it's a halfway decent company) and choose what type of pad choices they sell that fits your preference easily.

*Except falling apart. Thats not a rotor problem, that's a brand I'd replace immediately and NEVER use again. Ever: ( Saving $20 ain't worth my bike, my day, or my skin.
