I have a 09 1125R, I replaced the front pads and now I cannot get it to bleed. I've tried, like the service manual says, I've tried the squeeze open, close, release method and tried to gravity feed the system and nothing works. Has my master cylinder just decided to randomly take a dump or front caliper, what is most likely the first to go? I appreciate any help that can be given, replacement part suggestions or any insight on the problem. | ||

If I had to guess, you most likely have dirt in one of the ports in the master cylinder. One is a tiny hole, and doesn't take much to restrict it. The other thing you may try is a Mighty Vac or some sort of vacuum to draw the fluid to the caliper. Again just a guess.  (Message edited by willmrx on June 16, 2020) | ||

A not so common issue is a weak return spring. This prevents the piston from uncovering the inlet port on its return. Remove the spring, stretch and reinstall. Then order a new one. | ||

I've always preferred to push fluid up from caliper to master with a syringe.  | ||

Thanks for the info. Seems like the bottom 4 pistons aren't doing much. I'll give the syringe a shot, maybe there is a pocket of air blocking the flow of fluid. I can tell the intake port is clear, not sure about the compensating port, I'll see what the syringe does, hopefully if there is anything it will clear out so I can remove it. Thanks again. | ||

I agree with Terry. Ever since Henrik taught us how to efficiently bleed the Buell brakes, I've used the syringe method on every brake and hydraulic clutch since. It's ingenious. Side note: Can't stop looking at the photo of Terry's super bike in his profile pic. How the 1190RX is supposed to look, with a great helmet only adding to the appeal. Nice bike Terry. |
