So I am prepping my bike for the current track season. The throttle has a lot more free play in it. I think part of it is from the canyon dancer straps from trailering it. My only question is can this be a quick adjustment or requires more work.

Pretty easy. There is a slack adjustment screw on throttle cable by handgrip. If more is needed you have to remove airbox, that means the bottom half. Then it's easy to adjust slack at the throttle bodies. If it gets to that remember to center the adj screw at handgrip first.

There's a couple of places for adjustment... This should be common knowledge, at least the adjustment at the beginning of the cables. It's in your pocket manual too.

Right at the grip, where the cables come out of the control box on the bar.

Then down at the throttle bodies you can adjust both pull and return cables.

Leave about ten degrees of rotation slack in the grip. Enough to wiggle it back and forth, to account for muscle inputs from suspension and riding action. Too tight, and you'll change your throttle position when you inhale or exhale...

Huh? First I disagree with the assertion that breathing will cause your wrist to move, especially if you are riding correctly using your core and are relaxed at the grips. Second, wouldn't free play at the throttle just make a difference when one is completely off throttle? If you are coasting thru turns completely off throttle you are doing it very wrong.

Personally, I HATE slack in my throttle cable. I like it to be as responsive as possible.

Just my humble opinion here.

I like a very small amount of free play in my throttle. Just enough to feel it. I always check to see if the throttle plates are opening fully. With too much play, you won’t get full throttle opening.
